Happy Halloween!
pretty much everyone knows how obsessed i am with my car, my little red mini. i talk about her all of the time. i shine with pride when someone admires her perkiness, her handling ... her gas mileage. j teases me because he says i derive way too much pleasure from driving her around the neighborhood to the hoots and hollars of the local kids...
well i've been smitted (or is that smitten?). i angered God and she decided to remind me who is boss...
last night i pulled up to a stop sign. looked both ways. signalled for my turn. looked both ways again. and made a slow right turn ..... BAM!!!!!!!!!!! BAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a jetta, perhaps going a little too fast ran through the intersection (she did have the right of way as the local cops so gallantly reminded me) and hit my baby on the front driver's side. to add insult to injury, i was pushed right into a tree.
i am fine. and everyone has told me that i'm very lucky i was not hurt...but my little mini...she ain't lookin' so good. unlike humpty dumpty though, word is that she will be put together again...i hope.
if that weren't bad enough, it appears that i'm at fault. again, because the crazed jetta had "the right of way."
perhaps this was my "trick." hopefully, i'm due for a treat.
J and i normally don't talk to eachother more than once a day when at work unless it's about something specific. so i was a little concerned when he kept calling every 30 minutes just to shoot the shit and to ask how i was doing. well, he was wondering where THESE were.
aren't they pretty?
and this weekend, i finally finished the crocheted sweater. i love the buttons.
i think my friend's little girl liked it.
isn't she pretty?
a few weeks ago, i promised myself that i would spend the next few weekends doing nothing. nothing but sitting on my fat ass, watching bad television and knitting...and that's what i've been doing, pretty much.
so this weekend, while J is working on getting us some heat (he's replacing the boiler and the hot water heater) i'm going to do some straightening up.
first i need to do something with this room ... the office if you will.
somehow this picture manages to make the situation look worse than it really is. but my goal for the weekend is to organize this room.
before i do that though, i need to go to the mall....
later....
well well well....the red sox did it. at midnight this morning, they beat the yankees 10-3 to take the pennant. i for one didnt' think it would happen.
this was what i was nervously doing during the game ... with remote in hand.... *click*
i was driving the animals crazy ...
but finally, it was over ....
heh heh
now on to the world series...
GO SOX!
boston has redsox fever these days ... after coming unbearably close to elimination, thanks to david ortiz they're back in the bronx to try and reverse the curse of the bambino. (the curse of the bambino by the way is in my opinion just an excuse for screwing up over and over again. a friend of mine says i'm tough on the redsox but honestly, if i failed over and over again at just the time that i was supposed to be at my best, i'd be fired. so there.) when they lost their 3rd game in a row in the ALCS, i was so disappointed that it occurred to me that since the end of the regular season, i had been using the redsox success as a harbinger of the upcoming presidential election with bush representing the yankees (that is if the yankees really DID suck as a baseball team) and kerry representing the redsox.
i am now cautiously more optimistic.
and now for another quiz courtesy of sarah.

You're in touch with the world, and you have a very
strong opinion on things like politics and war.
Even if you do end up changing your image in
the future, most of us will still like you.

finally, should we call these freedom shots?
i was going to start this post with a rhetorical "maybe i just don't get it ..." and then decided that i totally "get it" ... it's our "fearless" leader and his politicos that don't.
so it's totally ok to tell the american people that if they don't vote for bush et al that there will be another 9/11 ... but telling seniors that social security is going to go to hell in a handbasket if bush gets elected is a scare tactic....
isn't that like the pot calling the kettle a kitchen implement?
hmm i guess what's good for the goose IS NOT good for the gander.
for the past few weeks, i had been feeling a little sorry for myself. i had a nasty cold that wouldn't go away (i finally DON'T sound like i've got a touch of the consumption) and i was going through some minor domestic issues (but again nothing that a good beating into submission couldn't take care of --ha). but things are better now. J and i are on the same page when it comes to the moving thing...we aren't going anywhere until we find a house we both are in love with and in the meantime, we're staying put.
in fact, we both really like this house...unfortunately it's not for sale. we've run into this problem more than once.
in other news, my secret pal ... the one who gives me presents ... asked me if i'd been doing any knitting lately. well yes, i have.
i'm almost finished with those chicken pillows from the Fall IK i spoke about here. all i have to do is sew them up and do the finishing embroidery. and of course stuff 'em.
i'm also working on a mitered afghan that i'm making to cover up our mangy looking couch. it's about half way done.
i've also been doing some charity knitting. i've been making hats for underpriviledged kids in the boston area for a group called Caps for Kids. i adapted larissa's meat head pattern and i've been making them with scraps of lion homespun using size 10 needles. they're kind of cute i think.
finally, i've been doing a little crochet as well. sometime ago i had purchased from ebay some mercerized cotton so i've adapted annie modesitt's little girl jacket from the IK crochet issue.
here's what i've done so far. it's a birthday present for a friend's little girl.
so you see, i have been busy! ok, i've got to get to work. damn! work really gets in the way, doesn't it.

You appear to be a Knitting Adventurer.
You are through those knitting growing pains and
feeling more adventurous. You can follow a
standard pattern if it's not too complicated
and know where to go to get help. Maybe you've
started to experiment with different fibers and
you might be eyeing a book with a cool
technique you've never tried. Perhaps you
prefer to stick to other people's patterns but
you are trying to challenge yourself more.
Regardless of your preference, you are
continually trying to grow as a knitter, and as
well you should since your non-knitting friends
are probably dropping some serious hints, these
days.

so a few people have asked me why we are looking for houses, when i just moved?
well the truth is that J's the one looking for houses. i mean i like looking at houses like i like reading magazines and window shopping, but i really don't want to move. our house has grown on me. it has a lot of things going for it, such as a large open floor plan and a gazillion closets and it could be so much better with just a little bit more work. i also think that he's been watching too much "this old house." after we found "the little red house" and he saw that he might not have to fight me on it too much and that i might actually go for putting an offer on it, he changed his tactic and started looking at old houses requiring major overhauling. i'm hoping this is just a phase and maybe he'll get distracted by something else.
this house hunting thing is getting to me. we went to a couple of open houses this weekend and found something we really really like but we both have reservations. to contribute to our indecision is the fact that we don't have to move right now if we don't want to so it's very tempting to think "well if we wait it out maybe something will come up that we like better."
but this house is so friggin' cute and so different from all of the other houses we've looked at.

the pros
it's on half an acre
it's reasonably priced for the area (this is massachusetts so it's hardly cheap)
it's an older home that's different and charming with high ceilings and gorgeous floors and woodwork
it's been renovated with a new kitchen and baths
it's got a front farmer's porch and a patio in back
the cons
it needs to be properly insulated
it's right on the road on a relatively busy street
it doesn't have AC
and it's a little small with practically non-existent closet space (and i'm all about closets)
what to do...
