*&%#@% Cat!
i want to thank all of you for your kind words. i think i responded personally to all of you.
napoleon is home safe. he was a little freaked out -- freaked out enough that when he was let go in the house, he didn't hiss at the dog when the dog licked him. this is progress people. the dog has come close to losing an eye for just looking at napoleon.
i have a question for parents out there. napoleon was brought home last night by some really awesome kids who recognized him from the notice i was distributing in the neighborhood. i'd like to give them a little something but i don't want to freak their parents out. parents out there...what's an appropriate "reward" for 10 year olds? (by the way, i did thank them repeatedly and told them they were awesome, which they were, and i think that alone made them happy).

Oh I am sooooo happy that Napoleon is home safe and sound. What a relief for you..and the doggy too :)

i'm so glad that nepoleon is home safe. i would agree with the majority of commenters. i have a 11-yr. old son, and he'd be happy to receive a video gift card from a video rental/best buy type of place. nothing too much though. ;)

so glad that Mr. Napoleon is home safe and sound. Maybe now that he has spent a night outdoors, he will realize how good he has it! Everyone has had such good ideas about rewards for the kids, I can't come up with anything better.

So glad kitty is home safe! As a parent I agree with the rest - some kind of video gift card or movie pass. I have no problem with kids being rewarded for doing the right thing.

I'm not a parent... but since when has that stopped me from flapping my jaw? I would think all of the suggestions posted here would rock out. Plus:
--McDonald's gift certificates
--Enormous water pistols
-- beer (just kidding!)
And the best, cold hard cash. Oh! The peeps who said to tell their parents what great kids they have... BRILLIANT. Nothing is nicer than praise. (Except cold hard cash) (and beer).
SO GLAD your kitty is home safe! I agree, I would be a blubbering mess if one of mine escaped.

I'm so glad the kitty is home! I have nothing to add to the what to give the rescuers, as I don't have kids...

I'm so glad the little puss is home. He's got a distinctive look, I'm not shocked they recognized him. I agree with most of the suggestions here, blockbuster card, movie pass, etc. Or perhaps touch base with the parents and ask them if there are any no-no's (so many kids are diabetic, lactose intolerant, non-tv/videogame, movie these days) before you go awarding.
I have earthy crunchy relatives with kids, so I have to be super careful ;)

Funny, my immediate thought was a gift card to Blockbuster. I wasn't alone. One of the most creative/useful/kid-friendly birthday presents my son got for his 6th birthday was a tub of microwave popcorn with twizzlers and such tucked inside along with a rental card. He loved it. Because, you know..they can rent video games there as well. Jen

I was thinking a movie rental gift card or theater gift cert. too, even before I looked at the other suggestions.
Of course, MY first choice would be a gift card for the book store, so they could get a chapter book or something.......

I'm glad your cat is safe!
For the reward:
How about a nice Thank You card with some cash or a gift certificate to Ben & Jerry's in it?

How about a movie pass for each of them? I also like the video rental gift card.
And definitely tell their folks how much you appreciate their efforts. Parents love praise about their kids, even if they say, "what, my kid? you must be kidding!" :)

I'm glad your cat is back home safe and sound.

I'd talk to the parents. I've heard some parents say that they'd rather their kids to something like that because they should, rather than because they think that there is a reward involved (and that there will always be a reward involved).
But, certainly, a gift card is a great idea.

By the way, now Dot thinks he's totally hot. She likes the reckless, dangerous type.

YAY!! I'm so glad to hear that! One of my biggest fears is that the cats will get out and I won't be able to find them. (My other biggest fear is that we'll have a fire and I won't be able to get them out.) Give the little bastard a big, slobbery kiss for me.
I think a gift card is a great idea. A hero always deserve a reward. Maybe to Best Buy so he can buy a CD or put it towards a video game or something?

Suitable reward for 10-year-olds -- maybe a small gift card for video rental or something like that?
I'm glad Napoleon is home!
