Strengths and Weakness
lately i haven't been very happy with my knitting. a lot of that has to do with this pesky habit i have of comparing myself to others. my shrugs look like ass. my ponchos are droopy. my sweaters don't fit right.
so maybe i'm just focusing my energies on the wrong types of projects. 'cause blankets i can do.
i'm calling this project the fairfield cable blanket (in honor of fairfield university whose colors are red and white). and i have to say i'm pretty happy with it.
each panel is made up of a different cable pattern. and yes, that is red heart acrylic in scarlet and off-white. this blanket will probably get drenched in beer and assorted other liquids (if my niece is half as crazy as i was in college). i want this blanket to get thrown in the washer and dryer.
after looking through several books for an appropriate edging, i decided on two rows of single crochet. it couldn't have been easier.

That blanket rocks. I'm going to steal it to give to my cousin who's at Fairfield. :-P

Wow- it looks amazing, and you can tell from all of those folds that it's massive. You're such a good aunt (although I'm disappointed there isn't a FU in sight). :)

That is fantastic! I would never make a blanket out of anything but Red Heart. It's tough stuff, it washes well, and Dot doesn't eat it. I don't think I'd be willing to get a second mortgage to make a blanket out of anything else.
I think I'm going to copy you with this one. I need to practice cables and I have a ton of Red Heart hanging around. And it looks so cool!
Melanie and I agreed that if Irene knows what's good for her, she'll stay far away from you on your vacation.

My grandmother has a tradition of giving everyone an afghan when they set out on their own. It is always in the gaudiest colors imaginable :-).
Said niece will love hers, especially because it's in the school colors. Red Heart is a great choice for a dorm setting.

hey, can i get a new blanket for school too?
and since i am a mature student, i promise i will take good care of it, so you can use real yarn.
just kidding, of course!
the fairfield blanket is sooo beautiful, lucky niece!
