It's Only Been a Year
over a year ago, i purchased 4 oz of merino in this yummy pink grapefruit color from michelle at fun with yarn.
monday, while watching the devil wears prada (ok movie. book was kind of just ok too.) i finally spun it up. last night i plied.
yeah, my spinning still ain't all that great, mostly because i just don't have the patience. and that's ok with me. surprisingly enough, the skeins are pretty balanced so whatever i make with this shouldn't be all wonky, so that's a good thing. this is my first time spinning merino too. and it's very soft but i had some jerky moments drafting and spinning at the same time. which is why i have some really fat parts and some super thin parts.
whatever. it's not a competition.

Your spinning is great! And so are your pictures!!! Yum!

I love all that orange!

I spin on a spindle and merino is hard to spin with, the fibers are so long it's hard to draft.
BUT having said that, that is AMAZINGLY GORGEOUS YARN!

I think they're pretty!

Don't people make extra effort to get the effect you got? It looks really pretty.
But I must say, if it's not a competition, how will I know that I've won? :)

No, but it sure is pretty! Merino can be hard to spin. I'm a pre-drafting fool.

That's going to make a nice squooshy FO. Merino isn't easy.
It's a slow learning curve, and it all counts.

Dude. I wish I could spin like that. I can't do lumpy to save my life. Enjoy it while you can still do it ;o) What you have there is absolutely gorgeous!

Looks good to me. I have a spindle that I don't know how to use, so your yarn is pure magic to me.

Lovely -- it looks good enough to eat!

It's not a competition.
Funny how hard it is to remember that sometimes. I was talking this morning about how many unbelievably talented fiber artists I've met (literally or virtually) through this blogging thing -- and I can sit around feeling envious or I can use the learning opportunity. Envy is the lazy way out, but so much less fun.
OK, so your post wasn't really about that, and your yarn is gorgeous -- I think I saw something similar at SPA, outrageously priced -- but it happened to strike me.

It's not a competition? Really? Damn.

I like the color - looks like a tropical sherbet sunset.

Beautiful!

You're doing well! I practiced a little everyday when I first started. Even a few minutes will help you understand the process. Your intuition will kick in after awhile and you'll make yarn you like. What you have there will knit up beautifully!!
