Red Sox Season
thanks for the compliments on the socks. a few of you asked if the pattern was Nancy Bush's gentleman sock pattern and i'm proud (small p-proud mind you, i didn't find the cure for cancer or anything) to say that they are not nancy bush's gentleman socks (as lovely as they might be). they are my socks. that i made up from my head. all by myself. like a big girl.
it's a basic top down heel flap sock. i cast on 60 stitches because the stitch (a twisted rib) i used is a 4 stitch repeat. the flap was knitted on 28 stitches. the pattern was continued on 32. for my gusset i picked up 16 stitches and decreased to a total of 60.
then when i got to the toe i decreased the toe by 4 stitches so that i was left with a total of 56 stitches. 14 for each dpn, 28 on each side if done with two circs or magic loop. then i just decreased my toe and then kitchenered.
these were knit with plymouth sockotta in a solid red on size 2 40 inch addi turbos. (i have big feet. i need to make myself big socks.)
i think these will be great for watching the red sox go to the world series!

I'm very very sock-impressed.

Great looking socks! Congrats on designing your own. :) I just don't seem to have the patients for such a task.
Condolences on the kitty too. It's so hard to loose such good friends.

Yep, what the Feminist Mafia above just said: if your own pattern is going to be confused with someone else's, it might as well be good old Nancy. My bf wishes I were more like you and your commenters--caring a little more (or at all) about the SOX. I just nod and smile when he talks about the Sox. Mayhaps I'll make him some of these lovelies.

OK, so as a lifelong Red Sox fan, all I have to say is "good luck". I still can't believe they won in '04. Amazing. I never thought I'd live to see the day!

Awesome. I've had Red Sox socks yarn in the stash for three years. It's about time I broke it out.

Gorgeous color and beautiful pattern! My husband and I grew up in the suburbs of Boston and he is still a die hard New England sports fan. Which doesn't sit with well with some of our NYC friends here. LOL!

Maybe if we all knit red sox, our knitterly mojo will propel the Red Sox to winning the World Series. I smell a knitalong!

That is a rockin' pair of Sox socks you've created. Really beautiful and impressive!

They are awesome. But if you want to wear them while watching the Sox you really should have knit white heels and toes. Just saying.
Posted by: Carole | April 25, 2007 at 11:55 AM
And hey, they swept the Yankees!! Life if GOOD!! Go Sox!! (Nice socks, one of these days I'll get brave enough to try socks.)
Posted by: Kelly | April 25, 2007 at 11:54 AM
They are beautiful! And your very own pattern! Will you be sharing it with the great unwashed (that would be us)?
Posted by: Lucia | April 25, 2007 at 11:50 AM
Very pretty! I love variegated yarns, but stitch patterns like these look best in solids or semi-solids, IMO.
Posted by: elizabeth | April 25, 2007 at 11:49 AM
SOX! This reminds me that I need to finish my Red Sox Sox, abandoned lo these many seasons ago.
Posted by: Ashley | April 25, 2007 at 11:41 AM
Whoa, those are really nice socks. Love the pattern on the top of the foot where it meets the sides of the foot, too. Nice details.

Go Sox! When you find the cure for cancer I think that would be proud with all caps for sure. Beautiful yarn and socks.

Well done! To be compared to Nancy Bush is certainly a honor worthy of hooting and hollering. Go Sox!
