Bustin' The Stash
the rippling has ended. let us take a moment to reflect ....
started: march 1, 2007
finished: april 30, 2007
approximately 60" x 60"
knitpicks merino style
knitpicks andean treasure
size H crochet hook
softwaves ripple from 200 ripple stitches by jan eaton
the original plan was for a much longer blanket. a rectangle. i like rectangles. but i ran out of yarn. and i wasn't about to buy more. (have i mentioned that the ball bands lied? that the skeins that i did weigh, weighed in at 15-20% less than indicated on the label? just be forewarned.) can i tell you how happy i am that this is finished?

Wow. This is so beautiful. What a great way to bust your stash! I wish I could do something like this for my jewelry.

I love the blanket. Was this a free pattern? If so where can I find it?
Posted by: beth | May 09, 2007 at 12:50 PM
Beautiful blanket. I want to knit a ripple blanket. Did you use a "system" for the random colors?- it is so beautifully done, can you give me a hint or two about color placement?
Posted by: Blogless Jude | May 08, 2007 at 12:47 PM
You have a fantastic eye for color, Maryse!!

Awesome ripple blanket!
Posted by: Felicia | May 04, 2007 at 09:19 AM
Absolutely gorgeous! You've got a clear winner here! I love all the colors you chose, and the order in which you combined them.
You know, I must've been channeling you yesterday, because I actually... crocheted. Blasphemy!
Posted by: grumperina | May 04, 2007 at 09:01 AM
Wow, it's beautiful. I bet it felt great to use up all that stash. Incredible.

unblieveable. stunning. seriously speechless.
Posted by: Cristina | May 04, 2007 at 03:56 AM
It's gorgeous. I have been learning crochet just so i can make this blanket! Love the colours. :0)

Maryse, your afghan makes me really want to learn to crochet!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW! It is gorgeous! And a great stash buster!
Posted by: Elinor | May 03, 2007 at 10:03 PM
It's fantastic!
Posted by: Kathy | May 03, 2007 at 09:42 PM
That is one truly glorious afghan! I love the interplay of all the colors and the square shape, even if it was unintentional.
Posted by: Kathy | May 03, 2007 at 09:39 PM
That is stunning! Square is fine when it looks like THAT.
My drug dealer's scale says that most purveyors do lie. The socks never weigh 4 oz, and the fiber rarely weights what it says. Either their scales are conveniently off kilter, or their weigh-in areas are much moister than my house. It really has started to bug me.

It's just beautiful! Enjoy using it!
Posted by: Debi | May 03, 2007 at 08:11 PM

Posted by: knittingphilistine | May 03, 2007 at 07:06 PM
Wow, this is the first time I've ever looked at crochet and thought "beautiful." Great job!
Posted by: Julie | May 03, 2007 at 04:10 PM
Ripple blankets are magic! What other explanation could there possibly be for putting all those colors together and still ending up with something I want to steal, uh I mean admire. Nice work.
I've heard before that the Knit Picks skeins are underweight. So lame.
Posted by: JessZ | May 03, 2007 at 03:32 PM
Wow. That is so cool.
Posted by: Cheryl | May 03, 2007 at 02:47 PM
congrats, it's beautiful.
15-20% is a pretty big discrepancy...
imagine if everyone did that + could get away with it :)
Posted by: kat | May 03, 2007 at 02:32 PM
yeah, what they all said. ;)
Posted by: amy | May 03, 2007 at 02:17 PM
This turned out great! I'm amazed by how so many colors can go into these ripple blankets and still look fantastic.
Posted by: pamela wynne | May 03, 2007 at 02:10 PM
Gorgeous, vibrant colours. It's beautiful!
Posted by: brooke | May 03, 2007 at 01:59 PM

Posted by: Danielle | May 03, 2007 at 01:40 PM
How beautiful! Blankets are quite an accomplishment. Yours looks really great :)
Posted by: Kate | May 03, 2007 at 12:49 PM

That is so great. I love to curl up in a nice big afghan with a book and tea. I love how lively the colors are, so bright and cheery, it will be perfect on a rainy day.
Posted by: Tracey | May 03, 2007 at 11:36 AM
Looks awesome, and major kudos for doing it all from stash!
Posted by: Cathi | May 03, 2007 at 11:34 AM
It looks awesome!
That's a pretty serious weight discrepancy. I'd call them and demand more yarn for free.
Posted by: Adrian | May 03, 2007 at 11:20 AM
This is really amazing. I am not normally a fan of a zillion colors randomly striped, but I love this. It's like neon lights reflected in water.
Posted by: Lucia | May 03, 2007 at 11:00 AM
Gorgeous! I particularly like the gray/blue/green sequence. 15-20% is a pretty big discrepancy!
Posted by: Macoco | May 03, 2007 at 10:58 AM
It's great! So cheery, it just makes you smile looking at it. (I bet especially now that it's done!)

Wow! The aqua and hot pink just POP! Great color layout! And you did this in two months? I'm impressed.
Posted by: elizabeth | May 03, 2007 at 10:15 AM
Woo! Even without buying the extra yarn, you were way more dogged on this than I would have been. Way to go!
Posted by: Ashley | May 03, 2007 at 10:06 AM
Beautiful! I also ran out of yarn & my ma said, "Why didn't you just buy more?" I think I ran out of patience too. She didn't get it.
Posted by: lola | May 03, 2007 at 09:42 AM
Oh Maryse... it is beautiful! The colors are fantastic together, and I just love the ripple stitch. I about thisclose to starting an afghan myself!

Bummer about the yarn. Did you let Knitpicks know? I'll have to start weighing my skeins.
