What a Difference A Year Makes

hi!  i know it's thursday.  today is the first day since coming back from Rhinebeck that i don't feel broken.   yes, rhinebeck physically broke me.  "humpty dumpty sat on a wall and had a great fall" broke me.  but since i wasn't counting on all of the king's men to put me together again (why ask a man to do something when a woman can do it better) i'm all fixed now.  oof!

anyway, by now you've heard all about rhinebeck and probably couldn't give a rat's ass about reading another post about it, but i have pictures and nothing else to talk about, so you're going to get a "what i did at rhinebeck" post from me.  sue  me.

so what did i do at rhinebeck?

1.  i saw animals

Corriedale? or Romney?

black and white

i don't remember what this animal is

2.  i contemplated the buying and eating of snacks (but i was good at the fair only stuffing my face at dinner time).

hot & cold drinks

snacks

3.  i admired and fondled yarn and wool

wall of silk

wicked nice wool

4.  i sold some cards!

my cards!

(i might have pestered people to buy my cards.  sorry the picture looks like crap).

5.  i might have lovingly heckled jess and casey a little at the ravelry party.  but it wasn't my fault.  the devil made me do it.  (and the raffle was totally rigged by the way).

6.  i hung out with my boston/rochester/nyc/fresno-ish/connecticut girls  (aka "my boyfriend.").  not that you would know it though since without intending to, i spent a lot of time on my own.  that's ok.  i'm kind of maverick that way.

7.  i bought a monkey wearing a sweater.

barrel of monkeys

8.  got kristin nicholas and clara parkes to sign copies of their new books for me.   (totally awesome books by the way)

9.  and finally met the yarnbee.

what didn't i do?

i didn't bring home any wool.

wall of wool

maybe next year.

3 More Hours

thanks so much for your enthusiasm for my cards.  a few have asked if i plan on opening an etsy shop.  maybe.  i'll see how this goes.  if there's enough interest i will.  if and when i do though, you all will be the first to know.  ha!

and i'm sitting at work here, getting all antsy because in just a couple of hours, the mini and i are hitting the road for rhinebeck.  i think i have everything i need.  a small project.  some $$$.  clothes.  we are good to go.

this year i'm leaving j at home.  he's got work to do.

i see some progress

OH!  before i forget.  i'm a "square" on both saturday and sunday.  if you've never met me, check out last year's Blogger Bingo I'm A Square post.

Open for Business

so remember about 6 weeks ago when i told you all that i was working on a crafty project and that you'd find out about it soon enough when i was ready to announce it?

well i'm ready.  and i'm open for business.  or rather will be at Rhinebeck.

DSC_0025.JPG

thanks to the encouragement and connections of one ms.  mcyarnpants, i've been given the opportunity peddle my  wares at Blogger Bingo Headquarters, aka a Craftman's Touch  and Red Maple Sportswear Co.  David and Mel at Craftman's Touch/RedMaple Sportswear will be set up in Barn 39, Booth D, and they've generously agreed to carry my very first line of photo cards.  you won't find fiber dyed by me, or crocheted toilet paper cozies (although i bet you wish you were).  nope, i'm in the card making business kids.

DSC_0022.JPG

and if you don't buy them all, i'll be out of the card making business.

seriously though, i've worked really hard on creating something that i hope you all will like.  each card measures 5x7 inches, is blank inside and is made from quality natural colored cardstock and an individually printed glossy photograph, shot by me.  i've enclosed each card (and envelope) in a protective cellophane sleeve.  and on the back of each card you will find my little monster-yarn-face logo.

so as soon as you get to Rhinebeck, go as fast as you can to Barn 39, Booth D, and check them out.  and check out David and Mel's stuff too, oh and stitchy's. you know, because i owe them.

if you aren't going to Rhinebeck and are still interested in my cards, you can always email me at bnt_images@yahoo.com.

Fourth Time's the Charm

so remember these socks?

remember how i knitted one whole sock and half of the second one and then decided that i didn't like the pooling so i frogged both of them?

and then how i started a third sock, knit the heel with the other ball of yarn hoping that by doing that i would be able to keep the barber pole effect that i liked so much?

yeah that didn't work either.

so i said to myself, "self, what's the problem here?"
"the heel is fucking everything up, self."
"so what's the solution?"
"screw the heel."

so i knit myself a pair of tube socks.

ta-da!!!!

Counting Sleeps NOT SHEEPS

sandy announced that there's only 8 more sleeps 'til Rhinebeck.  NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!  i'm not ready!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah i knew this would happen.  like last year, Rhinebeck (hell the entire month of october) has caught me off guard.  I didn't even get to go to the big E this year.  i blame this time warp on my advancing age AND this stupid school thing i'm doing.  oh and the job and the commute. oh and the fact that my house is still in pieces and it's getting cold and only a small, tiny piece of the house actually has siding on it and sure it looks fabulous but 15% sided houses don't fare well during a new england winter, even if we have global warming.   oh and have i mentioned that i have another friggin' test to study for?  yeah, before i can even start counting sleeps, i have to count sleeps until my next test.

so yeah, i'm not really in rhinebeck mode.

maybe this will help me.

Friday is for Housekeeping

today's list is brought to you by the letter F for Friday and Y for Yay!  i love fridays.

1.  first things first.  i got a 100 on my biology test.  yeah, i'm wicked smaht.

2.
felted pouches

little coin purses made from felted (or should i say "fulled") swatches.  yay me for actually doing something without having a written plan and approval from the authorities in charge of making things out of felted swatches!  by the way, i love that you can cut this stuff with scissors.  there may be more of these in my future.  maybe.

3.  weeks ago, while at the grafton flea market with stitchy mcyarnpants (shameless name dropping) i spied a typeset drawer, whatever the hell they're called.  you know you've seen them.  they're skinny drawers with tiny little compartments for holding letters for printing.  every now and again, they show up at the flea market but they've been a little on the pricey side. anyway, that time with stitchy, the guy wanted $15 for one drawer and although it was pretty and shiny,  i decided to walk away and come back later.  my rationale being that if it's still there when i come back, then it was meant to be.  well it wasn't meant to be.

because the typeset drawer gods had something else in mind for me.  last weekend at a local yard sale i found TWO for $5!!!! oh they're not nearly as shiny as the one i almost bought at the grafton flea, but FIVE BUCKS!!! FOR TWO!!!

bookman

pink and brown

i love them.  i also scored this fabulous black windsor chair for my office/yarn room and a bench (not pictured) for an additional $35.  if only all yard sales were this good.

yard sale find

that's about all i've got for now.  have a good weekend!

Project Spectrum...C'est Fini!

yes, this year's Project Spectrum is officially done and so it's time for my final two-month retrospective, with the stars of the show, Orange, Purple, and Brown.

My creationMy creation

funny thing is that until very recently in my life, i didn't care for orange, purple, and  brown.

then i discovered chocolate.  mmmm.  not the candy, but the color. dark woods, rich chocolate leathers and suedes, all inspire me, and make me want to  touch them, and move them into my house.   (ironically, my love for chocolate, the food, is not nearly as strong as it used to be).

my obsession with orange is impossible for me to explain as well.  i used to hate orange.  maybe i grew up with too much orange, being a child of the 70's and all.  maybe, its brightness called too much attention to itself.  but for the past few years, when forced to choose, i've been drawn to orange.  i carry an orange wallet, i have orange shoes, i even wear a bright safety orange puffy coat (yeah that's an excellent look for me).  orange makes me smile.

finally, there's purple.  i'm very particular about my purple.  it's got to be deep, and regal,  and intense.  not for me the lavenders and lilacs (although i say that now.  watch 2008 be all about lilac).

project-wise on the other hand, the months of september and october were relatively lame:  one scarf , one frogged sock. and a crocheted bag without a lining.

oh well, you can't win everything.
