As Seen On TV
a friend just told me that she heard my name mentioned on tv. this is not a surprise to me as i knew it was a possibility, but it is a little bit thrilling nonetheless.
these 15 seconds are courtesy of my friend stitchy mcyarnpants who you all might have seen on the Kitschy Christmas episode of Knitty Gritty that aired for the first time yesterday. sweet huh. (i, unfortunately, did not get to see her as i do not subscribe to the DIY network.)
anyway, you might have also seen my fun fur kitschmas tree.
i first knit this tree about 2 years ago, inspired by anjo's dr. seuss-like trees. i finally wrote up a pattern for it. my version is knitted from the top down, measures 18 inches in height and although free standing, is also soft and pillow-like. so here it is. you can also click directly onto the pattern link in my sidebar over there to the right.
i hope you all like it.

Hey M, I found your tree pattern on Ravelry so I had to check it out!
I am happy to find someone got inspiration from my tree pattern. Congrats on the success of yours! It's very cute....and if I was knitting more these days, I would have to try one!
Take care - Anjo (the former CraftyModster)

LOVE the tree! Immediately sent the link to the pattern to a bunch of other knitters and ordered the yarn online. I don't like how the Homespun Olive and Fun Fur Olive colors clash though - it looks like the Homespun Green Apple would be a better match. Or is there a good reason for them to not match each other? Also, I got some Allure in a darker olive, have you tried that yarn instead of Fun Fur, and if so, what were the results?

I love this tree. I rarely talk to my husband about the things I see on knitting blogs. But this got a major mention Friday nite. I love xmas + I love Dr. Seuss - I have always hated fun fur = this is the best xmas tree ever! I've only knit with fun fur once and it was a requested gift so I had no choice, but this, this is precious, it gives me pause to think upon fun fur...

WOOT!! LOVE this tree. Now I must make one!!

The tree is AWESOME! I already ran out and got the yarn for it (on sale too - woo hoo!). One question - do you hold two strands of the fun fur along with the homespun or just one? I started with just one and it doesn't look very 'furry' like yours...

This is 100% made of awesome.

Where have I been? That tree's all kinds of cute, and best yet: doesn't need watering!

How great!!! If only I had some Grinch characters to put around it. I'll bet there's no green Fun Fur to be had. Thank you! I hope I catch a repeat of KG.

Love it! I gave away tons of FF and Homespun a while back. Now I'll have to go buy some to make this - thanks for the pattern!

The tree looked GREAT on TV and I giggled like mad when I our intrepid McYarnpants mentioned your name. Yay!

That is so cool! 15 seconds of fame! The tree look great. I wouldn't have known it was made out of fun fur. Very classy looking.

I could actually get over my disgust of fun fur and make one of these! Thanks for the pattern.
Your red monster ball pictures would make great Christmas cards!

I'll have to look for the second airing of that episode.

It would be fun to knit a whole forest of trees! With any luck your tree pattern will deforest the entire population of fun fur.

Congrats! I love the pattern - I'm just sorry I missed the show. :( Now I need to go by some fun fur. ;)

If I do it in blue fur, can it be a Chanukah Bush?
Very cute pattern!!
Posted by: Debi | November 25, 2007 at 01:51 AM
Who knew I would actually want to have that yarn - but I really want to make that tree - it's adorable.

That tree is ADORABLE!!! Congrats on your 15 seconds of fame. That means you have 14 minutes, 45 seconds left.
I had a laugh recently. A colleague of mine sent out an email to everyone at work, and all her family, etc., with the headline, "Now I'm famous." She had done some stenoing of WWII veterans' oral histories on Veterans Day. She was in a photograph in the newspaper -- not identified, I might add. The sad thing was, she was serious about the "I'm famous" thing. I didn't bother telling her that her 15 minutes had not yet started to run. Heh.

Posted by: Danielle | November 24, 2007 at 12:14 PM
Is that "famous" or "infamous"? :)
Posted by: Mintyfresh | November 24, 2007 at 11:47 AM
that has got to be the cutest fur tree I have ever seen!
Seriously, I can't believe you made it. Adorable.
Posted by: kat | November 24, 2007 at 11:43 AM
Congrats!! That is adorable!
BTW, do you have any idea what happened to Anjo? She vanished...
Posted by: Chris | November 24, 2007 at 11:36 AM
For the first time, I think I want some fun fur. Very cute tree.
Posted by: Cookie | November 24, 2007 at 11:25 AM
Man, if I had olive fun fur in the house, I'd make one right now. I love it! I echo Sarah's comment, that you've finally justified the existence of this yarn. (However, I'm still not sure I can bring myself to buy some. I do have a multitude of other colored novelty yarn, perhaps I should use it up & ratchet the kitsch factor at the same time?)
Posted by: PlazaJen | November 24, 2007 at 10:52 AM
You have achieved for me what few others have - taken something I normally would not look at twice, and make me want it. There is a reason for fun fur - I must make one! You, and the tree are marvelous!
Posted by: Dianna | November 24, 2007 at 10:05 AM
That tree justifies the existence of fun fur in this world.
Posted by: Sarah | November 24, 2007 at 09:56 AM
That's very cute - I like it! And I didn't know Stitchy was on Knitty Gritty yesterday! Damn! I used to tiVo that but I stopped because they repeat the same episodes over and over again. Of course, now that I want them to repeat this one, they won't.
