"To the Knit Cave!!!"

hey kids!

know what this symbol means?

knitsignal.0

it means someone needs our help.

elisa's dad is in a VA hospital in iowa far from family and friends and needs a blanket.  and i think that if we all pitch in and knit (or crochet) just one square each,  we can help his daughter give this man a little love and warmth and help him get back on his feet.

so here's the plan:

knit or crochet a square.  preferably in a worsted weight-ish machine washable yarn. this blanket will be at the mercy of the VA laundry service.  i'm sure the laundry staff are very hard working and do an excellent job on laundry, but i think it's safe to say that this blanket will not be hand washed in cold water with eucalan.  just a guess.

try to get this square as close as possible to 8 inches square, blocked.  use a ruler if you have to.  (i know, that was snarky.  but i know how you knitters are about following directions.)

when you're ready to send the square, just contact either me or elisa and we'll send you an address.

boston area knitters who would like to send a square can give/send the square to me and i'll send them off to elisa.

thanks kids!

ETA:  some of you have asked for a few more details, so here goes.

Timeframe?  As soon as you can, next couple of weeks would be great.

Colors?  Any color is fine.  Just maybe not pink?  or other girlie color?  He is after all a grown man.

Thanks so much for interest in helping us out!

Comments

Could you send me mailing info -- to you or Elise, whichever works best since I'm a little tardy with the request.
Thanks!

Count me in too. I'll pick something out of the stash, hopefully I can find some washable!

I would love to help out if you need any more squares! Please let me know if I'm not too late!!

hopefully it's not too late to heed the call. please count me in. let me know.

thanks!!

Will do, if you still need it. I can get the knit group on it too.

Julie mentioned this on her blog...count me in...I'll start working on a square asap...

Fantastic--I have boy colors in a machine washable yarn and I can crochet up soon.

My dad (and husband, sister, BILx3, me, my son) is(are) a veteran(s) and I would be honored to knit your Dad a square or two. I have acrylic and superwash wool. Any preference? Please send address.

I'm in. Of course we need to do this.

I'm in.

I'll see if I can dig up some washable yahn. Hubby's mom is sick, so I can relate.

I'm really just stunned. I keep peeking at the comments and being floored by how awesome people are.

Maryse, thank you so much for coordinating this, I can't tell you how much I appreciate everything you're doing.

xoxo

I just found out about this from Claudia. I'll start knitting tomorrow (got an article to finish tonight).

I'll definitely work on a square... I'm sure I'll need something to relieve a little school stress!

I'm in.

Do you have too many yet? Address please? You are good people. And the knit cave logo is KILLING me.

You know I'm in. I have some navy blue and some neutral tan that would work if that sounds ok. Any suggestions on stitch pattern or just do whatever we feel like?

I'll see what I can do tonight. Wish I'd read this yesterday, sigh...

Poor Elisa, hope she's doing all right.

Any particular colors?

Can I send it to your addy?

I'm in.

Count me in. Is there a deadline? I work best under a deadline. :-)

Are you at the point yet of feeling overwhelmed with too many? If not, I'm in. I've got blue and black and brown yarn -- nice manly colors.

You can count on me. What's our time frame?

I'm in, too. Colors?

I love Elisa, so count me in, too. I know I have something in my stash that's both pretty and durable.

Thank you for being so wonderful!

I'm pretty sure I can crank one out in the next few days. Count me in.

Hey, I'll do one.

me too!
what's the time line?

I'm in! Thanks for coordinating this!

crochet or knit? i can do it! if there is a color pref, please let me know (or post on your blog). I'll be working on these squares over the weekend.

count me in - I'll go dig through the stash and find something, then will aim to get it in the mail to either of you later this week!

you are too cool and nice!
What a super idea.

I would say, count me in, but I am not a knitter :( But if you want, I can mention it on my blog... let me know if that would help get the word out. {not that I get tons of hits a day! but still...let me know.}

Totally in -- also curious about color preference?

Count me in - color preference?

I'm in too. :-)

I'm in.

I'll mention this tomorrow!!

I'm so glad you are doing this! I had a similar thought when I read Elisa's post today. I'll send you a square. Washable, bien sûr.
