I Must Be A Freak ...
... because i'm the only person it seems who isn't annoyed by the premature start of D.S.T. sure it kind of bites that we've lost an hour but in a couple of days my body will sort itself out and getting up won't be so difficult. i'm just happy that tonight when i get home from work, the sun will still be out and i can feel like i have a life again.
so the real purpose of this post ... SQUARES!!! in january, i put the knit signal out for squares for blanket for elisa's dad and a bunch of great knitters/crocheters responded. Eighty-six squares worth!
i bet you all thought that i had forgotten about them, or that i had decided to keep them for myself or something like that.
nope.
there was SPA, and the sickness, and several weekends of rain and snow so no light for photos. it also took me awhile to log each square into a handy dandy excel spreadsheet entering the names and addresses of every participant. then i had to tag each square with the crafter's name so elisa knows who made what.
yesterday, i finally packed them all up in a big zappos box. good thing the squares are nice and squishy because they all fit perfectly.
the plan is to get this box off to the post office sometime this week and then to give out some prizes. stay tuned.

I like DST. I always get up early enough that I don't normally have sunshine, so getting sunshine when I get off work around 6 is a treat!

I just wish they'd set it and FORGET IT. It's the change the bugs the shit outta me. My body is used to getting up at a certain TIME. I wake up with the sun. Granted, I have a fairly cushy schedule compared to many. But it feels like I have jetlag every spring.
Those squares look GREAT!

I love DST but my body sure doesn't during the first week! I am so amazed by all the lovely squares you received!
Posted by: tiennie | March 13, 2008 at 01:27 PM
Nope, huge fan of the DST here. I also like that its end in the fall has been pushed lated by a few weeks.
I forgot, though, that it started earlier last year too. This feels like it's the first year.

As someone who wants to do stuff after work in the daylight (like ride tandem bicycles) I am DELIGHTED with the early start to daylight savings time.
Posted by: claudia | March 12, 2008 at 11:50 AM
I LOVE the early daylight savings time, I would love to keep it all year long. I hate getting out of work when it's already dark.
Some of those squares are gorgeous :)

You're such a good friend! Those are amazing!
Posted by: Carol | March 12, 2008 at 07:18 AM
I hate DST. I hate it. My body argues with my brain when the alarm clock goes off, "It's 5" "No it's 6" "No it's 5" "Uhuh, 6."
Look at all those beautiful squares! I love all the colors, looks like people were digging around in their Barbara Walkers.

I'm with ya, on the DSL. I love it!
Way to go on the squares!

What a tasty pile of yarny goodness. And I'm weirded out by DST too :)
Posted by: Felicia | March 11, 2008 at 06:21 AM
I totally enjoy the extra hours of sunshine, but I'm still thinking your a freak :)
Wow - what an amazing site of blanket goodness.
Posted by: michelle | March 10, 2008 at 11:33 PM
Wow, mine are bor-ring. But it will be good to give the eyes a rest, no? :P
I am annoyed as well. I'm just over DST as a whole.

Nothing like seeing a large pile of knitted squares that makes one grin ear to ear!
DST fine, but premature DST without any benefit to anyone energy-wise? Just wrong!
Posted by: Manise | March 10, 2008 at 04:45 PM
Wow - look at how fun all those squares are!
Posted by: Chris | March 10, 2008 at 04:27 PM
Ooops, I meant to say how cool it is that you got 86 squares!

I happen to be thrilled that DST is early; I wish we would just stay on DST all the time. Although, I must admit that I was none to thrilled to have to get up at what would be 3:30am(4:30DST) on Sunday to go to work, but it's once a year and I napped all afternoon to make up for it.

I don't mind DST either. I LOVE that it is light out at 6:30. Awesome.
Oh, I did not forget... I will take a photo of my contribution {prize} and send it to you this week :)

It is so exciting to have DST...I wish it were all year...the only thing I don't like about it - is that there is a 3 hour time difference between my daughter in Arizona & I - they don't change their clocks!
Loved seeing all the squares! I was so happy to be able to contribute to the cause!!! Thanks for hosting it.

Not a DST fan at the moment. Makes it way harder to get up. The squares are awesome!
Posted by: Bridget | March 10, 2008 at 03:46 PM
They look so pretty, with so many colors and patterns! What a gorgeous blanket that will be. And Elisa is going to be pretty busy for a while!
What a labor of love--thank you for thinking of it. Just let me know where my prize contribution goes.

I did not like it this morning, but I'll be happy for it this afternoon! Man, those are some pretty squares, I should've knit fancier! :o)
Posted by: flwrhead | March 10, 2008 at 03:15 PM
I'll be all about the DST in a couple more days when my body adjusts -- it's just a drag getting there.
These squares are beautiful - there's so much color!

DST gives me hope but having to get up at 4:30 am (really 3:30 am) with kids to catch a plane was not so fun.

I don't enjoy losing the hour, but I sure do like DST. I wish they'd just leave it on all year round.
Posted by: Katherine | March 10, 2008 at 03:00 PM
I'm not a hater either, but it does take me a week or so to adjust, I'll be tired and cranky. Ick. I love the sunlight at the end of the day.
The photos are gorgeous.

Not the only one. In our house, DST is cause for celebration.
Posted by: Cara | March 10, 2008 at 02:38 PM
Ooh, I see mine! But who made the green cabled one? It looks gorgeous.
Posted by: Lucia | March 10, 2008 at 02:36 PM
i have to say, i'm falling into the "too early for DST" camp.
love those squares ... the pictures are gorgeous!
Posted by: Laura | March 10, 2008 at 02:11 PM
I think what's weird about DST being early is that it's light out but still cold. Enough with the cold already!
That's quite a passel of squares. Elisa best have her seaming needle ready!
Posted by: Carole | March 10, 2008 at 02:02 PM
I'm thrilled to have that extra hour of daylight at the end of the day!!
The squares all look beautiful! I'm sure Elisa's dad will feel loved when he gets the finished blanket!
Posted by: Kirsten | March 10, 2008 at 02:00 PM
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. There they are! And they are truly awesome! Check out all those fancy cables... I feel kind of lame now about my diagonal garter stitch. ;-)

You should read the DST thread in the Lazy, Stupid, and Godless forum on Ravelry. Oh no, you are so not alone in your feelings about DST. Hah...
Posted by: Jen in CT | March 10, 2008 at 01:48 PM
Sure, the first few days of DST are a pain in the butt but having more daylight on the other end is well worth it in my book. You are not a freak. :)
Posted by: Meredith | March 10, 2008 at 01:45 PM
Nope, you're not alone. I'm used to waking up in darkness anyway, and more than overjoyed to not feel like it's the middle of the night when it's only 5:30.
Posted by: Michelle | March 10, 2008 at 01:24 PM
Weird, I swear I see mine in there, but I sent it direct to Elisa..... there will be two that match!
I love DST. Love it.
Posted by: Rachael | March 10, 2008 at 01:21 PM
The squares look amazing. Knitters are awesome.
And I'm LOVING the extra light. Love love love.
Posted by: caro | March 10, 2008 at 01:21 PM
Maybe I'm more of a freak because I was excited about it. I called all of my friends to remind them to turn their clocks ahead...And when I came home from work at 6:30 last night, I could still SEE THE SUN. It was pretty amazing.
