Monday ToDo List
my days off from work are usually days of sloth and bad tv watching with some knitting mixed in. i'm not proud. and if asked what is my worse trait, or rather the one that causes me the most frustration i'd have to say that it's procrastination. i procrastinate with gusto and with energy and it's endemic as i come from a long line of procrastinators.
so when i decided to take today off, i vowed that i wouldn't waste my day screwing around in the house, hating myself for not getting anything done. I WAS GOING TO BE PRO-ACTIVE!!!!!
so i prepared a to do list.
1. fill out tax forms - federal and state.
2. pay bills
3. shred papers that need shredding
4. file away 2007 bills and documents
5. update my resume
i allowed myself a leisurely breakfast and flickr viewing. i was taking a vacation day after all, but at 11am on the dot, i turned off the TV and set up shop on the kitchen table.
please note: no computer or other distractions. i had npr playing in the other room.
by 2pm, after a lunch/the young and the restless break, i had completed our federal forms (our taxes are relatively simple and although i'm a chronic procrastinator i'm also relatively organized so i didn't have to go searching for paperwork) and was just about to start the state forms.
a couple hours later, the taxes were done. the bills paid. papers shredded or filed. and the resume was updated (to be fair, i had updated the resume 6 months ago and it just needed a little tweaking).
by 5pm i was done.
yay me!

wish I could say the same... here it is April 10th (almost) and I haven't even started ours... and I had promised myself to finish them early this year.... sigh

Is that an official Finish Cat in the middle of the table? Love it.

Nice job! I did my state and local taxes early but keep procrastinating on my local taxes. I think i just have an issue with local taxes?

I thought when we got a shredder that I would be free of junk mail. Now it just piles up round the shredder until I get to it (about once a month).
Love the yarn on your table...mmm...

I wish I had that kind of determination! Just making my 'to do' list takes it all out of me.

Go you! I usually have grand plans for my days off that rarely materialize.

That is almost scary.

Anything tempting in that new Spin Off?

Good for you! Taxes suck, don't they?

You're awesome! :)

I do a lot of procrastinating, usually cleaning. When I have a weekday off (for some reason I can't mentally make myself do it on the weekend), I try to spend an hour or two focused on cleaning and tidying. Makes me feel less guilty about being home and relaxing.

I totally procrastinate. You are so right that tearing oneself away from the computer is the essential first step.

Good job, Maryse! Those types of days are so, so satisfying. :)

Yay indeed! I would've caved to the lure of judge shows and knitting.

Way to go! I am very much a procrastinator too. I think I'm a pressure junkie!

good for you for getting everything done on your "to do list"
Posted by: kat | March 25, 2008 at 08:24 AM
Oh, so me too! On the procrastination bit. Actually that is what I am doing right now. I have work to do, I'm turning off the computer and heading to it. Great job on the taxes, doesn't it feel gooooood?
Posted by: Teresa C | March 25, 2008 at 08:03 AM
Congrats on getting it done. :)

Yay you!
My new shrink says that instead of saying "I should," I would do better to practice saying, "I would feel better if I..." So far it works.

Yay is right! Great job on accomplishing all those tasks!

Way to get it done! The cat looks happy to have his spot back, your being at home likely gets in the way of his usual napping routine:)
Posted by: Stacey | March 24, 2008 at 08:13 PM
Yay!!! I need to do my taxes, too. I should make a list...
Posted by: Chris | March 24, 2008 at 07:53 PM
You're my new hero. I'm going to call you next time I need a stern "get your ass in gear and stop procrastinating" talk.
Posted by: Danielle | March 24, 2008 at 07:37 PM
Good for you. But I just pay someone to do my taxes instead.
Posted by: Carole | March 24, 2008 at 07:27 PM
I spy the new issue of Spin Off on that table! I hope you are rewarding yourself and reading it now, or perhaps knitting something with that pretty yarn. Nothing feels better than a productive day.
