My friend L lives in Brooklyn and likes to send me craigslist ads that for one reason or another strikes her fancy. This is one she sent me this week.

This white concrete grotto is 2 feet 8 inches tall by 1 foot 4 1/2 inches wide.
Inside it is 2 feet 2 1/2 inches tall by 11 1/2 wide.Wieghs about 50 pounds. I am in White Plains, so you would have to come here to get it. (Jesus is not included. Just there to show you what you can do with it)

day 63 -- today is my half birthday.  happy half-birthday to me!  an old work friend used to bake me a little cake for my half birthday and come to my office with the cake and a candle and sing happy birthday to me.  or happy half-birthday.  she thought i got the short end of the birthday stick with my birthday being so close to christmas and all.

day 62 -- i'm kidding.  thanks for all of the support from the other day.  i was bullshit for 2 days and hurt and frustrated and indignant.  but i'm ok now.  i'm thinking it's just the kick in the pants that i needed.

WIP Wednesday

so i've never been much of a gardener.  a couple of years ago i tried my hand at growing herbs, which was fine, but unsatisfying and last year i tried sunflowers and that was disheartening at best.  part of the problem, i know, is that i don't know what the hell i'm doing and i become overwhelmed with the details.  reading up on the topic just makes me feel as if i know even less than before i started reading up on the topic and that makes me realize that i will never know anything and i just want to give up.

and then norma comes along with her garden tutorial "along."  and she promises me that i can grow something in free standing containers, and that she'll hold my hand (figuratively of course, but i'm sure that if i needed her to hold my hand for a second or two -- not too long of course -- that she would.  maybe to make up for the fact that she mispronounces my name sometimes) and tell me exactly what i need to do.

so last saturday i did some shopping at my friendly neighborhood home center and came home with some potting soil, some seeds, and some tomato plants.

i've started small.  some cilantro (i'm all about cilantro) and basil.

lettuces.

and some big boy tomatoes (i accidentally also picked up a big beef tomato plant).

i planted according to package directions.  (they could stand to be a little more explicit by the way, the instructions on the packages but norma says not to sweat it too much.)

so now i'm just waiting for something to happen.  norma promises me that something will.

grow damn it!

day 61 -- *sigh*

At the Risk of Getting Dooced

so the post that was in my head is going to have to wait another day because i'm so pissed right now, i could spit.

you see, it appears that for the past 5 years my work hasn't been up to snuff.  something about not taking enough of an initiative.  not anticipating enough what needs to get done.  of course i haven't had a review in 5 years and today's the first i've heard that something isn't quite right.  anyway, when the new grant goes in for funding in 2010, it's quite possible that i will not be written into it.   the irony of course, is that if i were to stay, i would probably have to train the much more "qualified" replacement.   you know, because i know everything but i'm still not good enough.  (is that irony or is that just fucking crazy?)

in the grand scheme of things, this is probably a good thing.  the job didn't turn out the way i was promised or the way i had hoped.  and i'm sick of the commute.  but good luck finding someone to do everything that i do by her/himself, without complaining, that i've done up until now.

day 60 -- my day wasn't entirely craptastic.  heard from the dealer.  mini's giving me a new transmission.  i have to pay for labor, but that's a fraction of what it could have potentially cost me. 

I Had A Post Planned

i had a post planned with pictures and everything, but unwritten.  just in my head.  and then the day got away from me.  with work and then knit night and everything.  it's a a little past 10pm now and it's stormy outside with crazy ass lightening and i'm tired and just want to go to bed.  so that post will be for another day.

Tim Russert

i've been a fan of tim russert's for many years, probably since 2000.   he's the only political analyst who didn't make me want to throw something at the tv.  so it was quite a shock when i learned less than an hour ago that he had died.   

i'm somewhat taken aback by how strongly i've been affected by this news.  i will miss him every sunday.

day 56 -- a sad day

Look What I Have!

so guess what's living with me these day?

yep, it's a VW bug.  2008.  in red.  and it's a "loaner."

because the mini, she's in the shop, waiting for the customer service people at mini to tell the guys at the dealership "hey, let's help out this chick who loves her mini.  the broken transmission -- that's totally our fault.  it's a stupid transmission, we should have never sold her a car with a stupid transmission that shits the bed at only 80K miles.   so forget about the fact that her warranty is up and lets just fix it for much less money."

yes i'm a dreamer.  (although you never know.  i did call mini.  and they did say they'd call the dealership.  and the dealership did say to me "oh they'll all." so we'll see.)

but seriously.  how stupid is it to give me the second cutest car on the road to drive around while i wait for my car, a competitor's car, to get fixed.  you know, because of a faulty transmission.

i told the guys at the dealership to tell the mini people that i'm driving around a bug right now.  and if they want my next car to be a VW, they can ignore me.  but if they want me as a long term customer, they know what they need to do.

because the bug, she's a nice little ride.  and when before i bought the mini 5 years ago, i came THIS close to buying the bug instead.

just a quick post before going to bed.  it's been a long day.  and i have to get up at the crack ass of dawn tomorrow morning so i can be at work by 7.  meetings suck.
