Everyone! Into the Pool!
so one of the complaints that people have about working in variegated yarns is that they don't like the pooling. and sometimes i'm in total agreement.
ACK!!!
but sometimes the pooling is exactly what a project needs.
after my dye job of a couple of weeks ago, i was so curious about how my yarn would knit up that i decided i would make something simple that would highlight the interplay of colors that i was so looking forward to seeing. so i cast on 100 stitches -- i had a wide scarf/wrap planned -- and started knitting.
and i was a little underwhelmed. it wasn't horrible, but the colors just kind melded into something that reminded me of a baby yarn colorway with the words "bunny hop print" in the name. i was a little bored. (the white balance on this photo is off, but i was too lazy to fix)
so i frogged and this time cast on only 60 stitches and look what happened...
POOLING!!
but in a good way.
and certainly more fun to knit.

day 95 -- early today!

I'm a fan of pooling. But then I also prefer semi-solids, so in that case it's less obvious.
I just like being able to really see the colours, together and apart.

That really is pooling in a good way!

ps, I love how the cat's tail is in there. My cat does that too. Doesn't want to model, but still must make it's presence known.

I think I am in agreement with you on this. I usually don't mind pooling. I love how your hand dyed is coming out. The sock you are doing is kinda cool, but chances that your other sock will look just like it are slim to none.
right?

*love* the way that looks! I think it has something to do with the orientation of the pooling. There was some on Sidewinders that I knit, but it managed to look okay. And this, too, looks like it's running up the scarf.

Pool Party! :) I'm so wishy-washy with the pooling, sometimes and love it and other times not, but boy do I take great joy in manipulating it :)

I love it.

I like both versions. What, me, ambivalent?

Definitely more fun! But I love that sock anyway. :)

Can we talk about that sock? I think I love it and I hate pooling.

I never would have thought that a difference of 40 stitches would change something so much! That is really lovely...I cetainly am learning a lot about yarn from all of you!

I adore those socks, I do. And you home-made pooling is also so pretty!

Yup, with the pooling it totally depends on the project and the yarn, and the colors.

I'm knitting a sock right now that's pooling quite a bit. I can't decide yet if I love it or hate it.

Wow, you're totally right. I normally hate pooling -- passionately -- but I like your yarn knit up better with the pooling than without. Who knew?
