Who Am I?

a few months ago, maya posted myers-briggs type quiz.  at the time, i didn't post it, sure that i had taken this quiz before and had written about the results.  but i saved it anyway, sure that i would need something to post some day.

You Are An ENTP
The Visionary

You are charming, outgoing, friendly. You make a good first impression.
You possess good negotiating skills and can convince anyone of anything.
Happy to be the center of attention, you love to tell stories and show off.
You're very clever, but not disciplined enough to do well in structured environments.

In love, you see everything as a grand adventure. You enjoy taking risks for love.
And if things don't work out, you're usually not too much worse for the wear!

You would make a great entrepreneur, marketing executive, or actor.

At work, you need a lot of freedom to pursue your own path and vision.
How you see yourself: Analytical, creative, and peaceful

When other people don't get you, they see you as: Detached, wishy-washy, and superficial

and i was only kind of right about taking this quiz before. check it out.

day 104 -- at least i'm consistent

July 30, 2008

WIP Wednesday

the fiber that i jar-dyed and spun is done.  about 200 yards of 2-ply yarn that looks kind of like animal entrails.  nice, huh.

entrails?

so i guess that technically this is a FO and not a WIP.  whatever.

homespun

my spinning is still uneven.  i think i'm just not patient enough to get it right.  but on the bright side, it is perfectly balanced.  there's an interesting scarf pattern in the latest Spin-off that i may try.

**************************
day 103 -- i swear that this yarn looks better in person.  less intestine-y.

Wee Beasties

one of the guests from this past weekend was Kellee's weebeastie.  (who is not so wee as he is taller than miss sophia yet younger than she is by 5 months.)

momma's boy

hey! what's going on over there?

B does his best dog impersonation.

farmer B

B insists on beating the sidewalk into submission.

stupid traffic

the traffic just sucks around here.  "beep beep"

**************************
day 102 -- B is another cutie especially in that hat.  unfortunately, he wasn't as willing a subject as miss sophia and i didn't get as many shots as i would have liked. but i do have a couple of blackmail worthy photos that i'll just save for his parents for when he starts dating.  heh heh

**************************
day 101 -- i could go on and on about how adorable little miss sophia is, but i prefer to let my pictures do the talking.   now if she would only sleep through the night.  for her parents.  for the love of god.

When Was Your First Time

Stolen from Terry and Margene

  1. Who was your first prom date?  I did not go to the prom.  I was asked, but I didn't really like the boy who asked me.  And I didn't think it was fair to him that I just go with him so I could go to the prom.  I was sure that I would be a lame date and he deserved to go with girl who was excited to be with him.  I considered going stag but was discouraged by "friends."  I later found out that the boy I did really like, who just thought of me as a friend, got dumped by his girlfriend at the prom.  I could have totally scooped in.
  2. Do you still talk to your first love?  No.  I have no idea where he is .
  3. What was your first alcoholic drink?  My parents are french so I started tasting wine when I was little.  My first hard alcohol taste was probably Pernod when I was 12.  My grandfather thought it was time that I taste it.  It was nasty.
  4. What was your first job?  For pay?  I worked at the library in college.
  5. What was your first car?  My mini.  Yep, the car I drive now is my first car ever.
  6. Who was the first person to text you today?  No one.  I don't text very often.
  7. Who is the first person you thought of this morning? Oh, definitely me.
  8. Who was your first grade teacher?  Mrs. Wathans?  Or was she my kindergarten teacher?  Honestly that's the best I can do.
  9. Where did you go on your first ride on an airplane?  I went to France.  I was 8 months old.  I don't remember it.  HA.
  10. Who was your first best friend and are you still friends?  My first best friend?  I remember being friends with another little girl when we lived in Texas.  Our parents were friends.  Her name was Martine.  I was 4.  But then we left Texas and I never saw her again.  I had a best friend in California.  Her name was Christy.  She and I looked alike so we were asked if we were sisters a lot.  Then she moved.  And then I moved.  And we wrote to eachother for a bit.  But then that stopped too. The there was Judy in New Jersey.  We stayed in touch even after I moved and got back together when I came back to the US for college.  We lost touch though when I told her she was insane to give up her full college scholarship to marry the boy she met the summer between her freshman and sophomore years in college.  I guess she didn't like my candor.  I never saw or heard from her again.   I do still keep in touch with my best friend from the 8th grade and high school.  Karen lives about 20 miles away from me now.  We see each other every now and again.
  11. What was your first sport played?  First sport?  I never played any organized sports.  Let's just say that I'm not very talented in that area.  I was on a swim team though from the ages of 9-11.  I won a third place ribbon and competed and lost to two older boys.  The individual medley.  I got killed in the Butterfly leg.
  12. Where was your first sleepover?  It must have been with my cousins.  I don't really remember honestly.  I do remember going to little girl sleepovers when I was 7 or 8 but I don't think those were my first.
  13. Who was the first person you talked to this morning?  J.
  14. Whose wedding were you first in?  Karen's.  My friend from high school who lives nearby.  She got married a couple of years out of college.
  15. What was the first thing you did this morning? Hit the snooze button.
  16. What was the first concert you went to?   It was either the Stray Cats or Adam Ant.  They both came to my college.  (Yeah, I wasn't much of a concert goer).  Both were great.  I just can't remember which one came first.  I also saw George Carlin at school.
  17. What was your first tattoo or piercing?  I got my ears pierced when I was 8 years old.
  18. What was the first foreign country you went to? France
  19. What was your first run in with the law?  Yeah I'm going to disappoint here because I have an unnatural fear of people in a uniform in positions of authority.  But I think my first run in is when I walked off campus  carrying an alcoholic beverage.  I was ordered to dump it.  Which I did.
  20. When was your first detention?  I had a detention in 7th grade.  I was late for school.  It was my father's fault.  He offered to drive Judy and I to school, only to get us there late.  Yeah she got detention too.
  21. What was the first state you lived in?  New York.  I'm a native New Yorker baby.  (but not a Yankees fan).
  22. Who was the first person to break your heart?  So many boys, so little time.  When I fall, I fall hard.
  23. Who was your first roommate?  Lynn.  Freshman year.  She didn't like me very much.  And complained that I hung out with her and her friends too much.  She was mean.
  24. Where did you go in your first limo ride? Karen's wedding.

day 99 --  yes, this post was prewritten.  is this considered cheating?  because i really didn't want to bring my computer on my roadtrip.

Joss Whedon and Something About a Crochet Magazine

i'm a bit out of the loop.  i'm not terribly cool.  i'm not a geek.  (it's possible that i am a dork but that's neither here nor there).  and i'm still working my way through my second Firefly DVD.  (don't even ask me if i've seen Dr. Horrible because I haven't  and I don't plan on it unless it comes out on DVD).  but word on the street is that Kim Werker of Interweave Crochet and Crochetme  would love to interview Joss Whedon.

of course Joss only has himself to blame for this.  you can read all about it here and here.  i hope he realizes what he's gotten himself into.

so since i've got this blog and i crochet and i think nathan fillion is hot, i'm doing my part to help Kim out on her quest.

good luck Kim!

day 98 --  i'll tell you about my trip when i get back!

July 24, 2008

I'm Outta Here!

1.  holy crap!  it's raining like a mofo right now which is making me a little nervous because in a couple of hours, i'm driving west to rochester to spend the long weekend with some knitters.  the thing is, as i've probably mentioned before, i'm a relatively new driver.  so this will be my longest driving trip by myself ever.  seriously.  so i'm a little anxious.  and if it's raining like crazy (which i understand it will at least until i get across the stateline) people will be driving like assholes and i there's nothing that annoys me more than assholes on the road.  (so yeah, living in massachusetts, i get annoyed a lot.) (i actually looked into taking the bus or train, you know, trying to be all environmentally responsible and everything but the bus would have taken me at least 9 hours! and by train, i just can't get there from here.  i would have had to take the train to NYC, then change to Rochester which would have taken me close to 12 hours!  i'm not so young anymore.  i just don't have that kind of time to waste!  and both the bus and train would have cost more than driving.  can you believe that?  stupid lame public transportation system).

2.  i'm not bringing my computer.  I KNOW!  THE HORROR!  but i've already prepared some posts in my absence (is that allowed by the way?  oh who cares.  i'm allowing it) and i'll be back, live and in color, on Sunday.

3.  i'm also not bringing my wheel, but i am bringing some knitting, and my cameras.

4.  so i made some fried green tomatoes last night.  sliced up the tomatoes in small pieces (you know, after cutting out the yucky pieces), sprinkled some breadcrumbs, and sauteed them in some garlic and olive oil until they were semi-soft.  and they were pretty damn good!  i also made a small mesclun green salad using my own salad greens.  i was very pleased with myself.  no photo though, because it was too dark for decent photos.

so that's it for today.   i have to get ready.  shower, pack, load the dishwasher, and then i'm off.

day 97 --  rochester or bust!

July 23, 2008

WIP and WTF Wednesday

norma talked about this happening.  and i listened.  oh i did.  but i misunderstood and thought it didn't apply to me.  and now i'm paying the price.

something is rotton in the garden

(the top tomato was picked in haste by the way.  it doesn't seem to be affected by the scourge that is blossom end rot).

little green tomatoes

so in the hopes of salvaging something, i'm going to try and cut out the rotten parts and then i'm going to fry what's left and see if it's palatable.  it won't kill me, will it?

and i'm going to pick up some bone meal, fertilizer and epsom salts tonight on my way home.

**************************
day 96 --  if you don't hear from me tomorrow it means that the tomatoes killed me.

Everyone! Into the Pool!

so one of the complaints that people have about working in variegated yarns is that they don't like the pooling.  and sometimes i'm in total agreement.

ACK!!!

september 26, 2007

but sometimes the pooling is exactly what a project needs.

after my dye job of a couple of weeks ago, i was so curious about how my yarn would knit up that i decided i would make something simple that would highlight the interplay of colors that i was so looking forward to seeing.  so i cast on 100 stitches -- i had a wide scarf/wrap planned -- and started knitting.

swatchin'

and i was a little underwhelmed.  it wasn't horrible, but the colors just kind melded into something that reminded me of a baby yarn colorway with the words "bunny hop print" in the name. i was a little bored. (the white balance on this photo is off, but i was too lazy to fix)

so i frogged and this time cast on only 60 stitches and look what happened...

shadows and light

POOLING!!

but in a good way.

DSC_0003.JPG

and certainly more fun to knit.
