hi!  i've got a connection!

my drive down was uneventful.  i took a little detour in east hartford to meet j for lunch (he's been in connecticut on a job since monday) and drove steadily until i hit traffic approaching the george washington bridge.  i know, i know, i probably should have avoided that whole area but i go where the garmin lady tells me to go. 

i got at my destination in time for an adult beverage (or two) and dinner.  so far the overwhelming theme of this little mini-vacation has been food.  really yummy and extravagant food.  (sorry, no pictures.  i'm still not comfortable pulling out my camera to take pictures of my dinner while dining with someone from my "real life." ) anyway, last night i had a seafood fra diavolo platter with lobster tail and calamari and scallops and langoustine (with head -- we had to cover the head). 

then today my friend took me to work with her.  and it's been really interesting. really.  i like to observe people in their natural habitat.  (and it's not like i went to MY job).   plus i got to tag along with her and two of her colleagues on a 3 hour "working" lunch.  (and another fabulous meal -- those lawyers sure know how to conduct a business meeting).

anyway, we're packing up to head back to the house soon.  and maybe if there's time, we might be able to go for a boat ride before dinner!

day 132 -- new jersey and you, perfect together.

Whatever I Want Wednesday

1.  in a couple of hours (or ideally in an hour) i'll be leaving for the jersey shore.  i've been looking forward to this trip ever since i finalized the plans for it last weekend.  i'm visiting a friend from college.  it'll be fun.  and maybe for a few days i'll feel 21 again.

2.  i woke up all crampy, and puffy, and sneezy.  the 5+ hour drive is going to blow.

3.  j is in hartford for work.  i'm meeting him for lunch.

4.  if not for connecticut, massachusetts would be so much closer to new jersey.  ever notice that?  no offense to those of you who live in connecticut, but there's a lot of miles of nothing.

5.  so after my push-up test on monday, i'm stupid sore.  and i have to do some today.  i will do them before leaving for nj. (i also did sit-ups on monday and i'm stupid sore there too.  i'm a mess).

6.  ooh i finished up some knitting...

this is the only pair of socks i managed to knit this summer.  and it took 2 months.  these were made from artyarns supermerino in a color that i call "mexicali."  i don't know what the artyarns people call it.  this is special yarn though because it's the sock yarn that i ever received as a gift.  it was given to me during that time in my knitting life when i was afraid of knitting socks. 

i raveled the details.

day 131 -- i didn't prepare any posts ahead of time, but i'm going to bring the computer with me.  if i have access to a connection, i'll post, if i don't, i'll post when i get back.

Soup's On!!

with j out of town tonight, i was on my own for dinner.  i prepare virtually all of the meals in our household mostly because i don't think oreo cookies and munchos make for a proper dinner.  but that's just me.

anyway, since my mother-in-law had given me tomatoes from her garden (nice red ones) and i had one ugly red one and 2 small green ones that that fallen off too early, i decided to make myself some dinner.

so i chopped up the tomatoes and sauteed the green tomatoes in some olive oil and garlic.  once they were soft, i threw in the ripe tomatoes (tasted my ugly red one and damn did it not suck) and a small handful of coarsely chopped up basil (from my garden, thank you very much).

salt and pepper, and plopped on top of some pasta with shredded parmesan cheese, i have to admit it was pretty yummy.

Ce N'est Qu'un Au Revoir

so tonight at knit night we bid our friend adrian (aka HelloYarn) a fond farewell.   see, she's leaving us and moving west.  well, to western mass anyway.

anyway, we'll miss you!  but not too much.  because there will be a lot of visiting.

day 129 -- today i did the "initial test" for the 100 push up training plan.  let's just say that it could have been worse. 

Random Sunday

1.  it's sunday night, and i'm watching olympic men's volleyball even though i know that they already won the gold medal.  on a scale of 1-10 i enjoyed these games about a 6.  too much beach volleyball, not enough anything else.  also it was frustrating to know how things ended 12 hours before seeing them.  i know it couldn't be helped, but it kind of took the fun out of it.  by the way, did anyone see the long jump or the high jump or any of that?  because i missed it.  oh well.

2.  i made some progress on babette.  i'm on the last section, halfway through.  this is one tiny blanket.  i'm not going to create new sections though.  i think i'll just add some size with extra border rows.

3.  yesterday was a big inlaw birthday celebration.  three birthdays were celebrated including the 21st of my oldest niece.  good times.  (really, i'm not being facetious).  did some bonding with the baby niece. the dumdums are working like a charm.  heh heh.

4.  i finished up some knitting:  a cowl and a pair of socks.  nothing too exciting, but i'll show them to you later on this week.

5.  and i may get a little bit of a vacation after all.  i took this coming week off, but made arrangements to go to the jersey shore wednesday and hang out with a college friend.

Eye Candy Friday

i've had a hell of time writing posts this week, hence the stupid "language arts" quiz from yesterday.  but today i was going to make an effort.  until i tried to download some photos from my camera and couldn't find the cable.

freak out.

see, the thing is, if i lose something, even temporarily, i have trouble letting it go.  wednesday, i couldn't find my glasses.  and i obsessed for 3 hours about them, drove cross town to my other office to see if i had left them there, (which i hadn't) even though i had an extra pair, AND they were more than likely on the floor somewhere in my bedroom (which they were).

this morning, i spent 2 hours looking for this godforsaken cord.  2 hours! until finally, i decided that regardless of whether i found it eventually or not, i needed a cord post-haste.  so i ordered one off of ebay.  AND then i called j. 

"hey, did you take my camera cord?"
"is it a USB cord?"
"yes"
"is it black?"
"yes"
"i might have."

anyway, all this to say that the post you were supposed to get today, you aren't going to get.

i spend so much time in my car, i figured i should start taking pictures while i'm in it.
