still no computer (although i'm hopeful for tomorrow) and i didn't get a chance to write a post at work so i'm blogging from j's computer. i'm sitting in the basement, at his desk, amongst his filth, cigarette butts (yes the doofus smokes) and other paraphenalia and writing this post as quickly as possible. he's upstairs, zonked out on cold medicine. not that he would mind that i'm on his computer, but he would give me a hard time. and it's been a long day. by the way, while i'm down here, let me tell you what else is on his desk here. there's an old DSL router that wasn't working right so we replaced it. and a landline phone that isn't hooked up to a phone jack. so it doesn't work either. assorted wrenches, a pocket knife, nail clippers, drill bit, clamp. and my favorite, a microscope. just sitting here. i have no idea what he uses it for, although it's been helpful when trying to extract splinters.
that's all for today.

day 195 -- gotta clean the litter box now. good times.
ooh beth, you've put me in an awkward position. i love winning a prize. don't get me wrong. . and for that i thank you.

but now, you're making me pick 4 blogs that i love. do you know how many blogs i read? gah! i can't handle the pressure!
so i'm going to kind of play along by thanking you, beth, for picking my blog as one of your favorites and then linking to my bloglines list. yeah i know. it's a cop out. but i seriously can't pick just 4 favorites.
well except for this one. hee hee.

day 194 -- still no mac. but we're getting close.
1. my mac is still with the IT guy. i just talked to him. he was able to back up all of my files and he's now reinstalling my operating system. when he did the diagnostic tests he got some goofy I/O errors (whatever the hell those are). but apparently there's nothing wrong with my hard drive. he's hoping that reinstalling the operating system will fix things. that's good news, right?
2. i waste a lot of time playing on my computer. even after going out last night, i came home and actually did some more knitting. and this morning i was up at 5:30 and out of the house by 6:15.
3. i need a haircut. it's been well over a year since the last cut and i need a trim because my ends are all uneven and kind of witchy looking. but i'm also finally happy with the length. it's a conundrum.
4. i've started taking vitamins and i feel better. i've also a slice a banana bread every morning for breakfast since sunday. it's either the placebo effect, the banana bread, both or neither.
5. and here are other things i've been thinking about:

day 193 -- less ack!
i love a banana. i love them in my cereal, i love them with chocolate or peanut butter. i love banana flavored ice cream. i just love bananas in all of their banana-i-ness. so it's rare when a bunch of bananas last long enough in my house to end up looking like this.
i also rarely bake.
but this weekend, i made banana bread for the first time in a bazillion years.
the recipe i used was simple, with very few ingredients: flour, salt, baking soda, brown sugar, butter, eggs and bananas. lots of bananas. and no nuts. (i don't care for nuts in sweet things.) and so very easy.
and the resulting "bread" is fan-freakin'- tastic in it's yumminess. rich and buttery and banana-y but not too sweet, i'm going to enjoy eating it for breakfast for the next few days. (yes, because i will be eating this by myself. j doesn't like banana bread. of course he hasn't tasted banana bread since he was a child, but whatever. more for me).

day 191 -- while i was working on the bread, i stopped to take some photos. when j caught me taking this one he shook his head and said, "just bake it."
he's a man of few words.
by now, you've probably seen more than your fair share of rhinebeck photos and read plenty of rhinebeck stories. my story isn't much different. i hung out with friends. i missed both ravelry meet-ups because i was standing in lines while it was going on. i did some shopping. and i took some pictures.
this is adrian.
and i think this is adrian too.
and here's claudia!

and danielle ...
... and julia.
and i took pictures of the fairgrounds ...
ok, i guess i took a lot of macros.
**************************
day 188 -- i didn't take just macros though. i was also the official ravelry party photographer. (press credentials might have eliminated some of the strange looks i got. some people weren't all that keen on having a random stranger take pictures of them. anyway, some of the photos i took are included in jess's rhinebeck set here.)
no real progress has been made since last wednesday. still working on the mystery socks. and i'm already behind. i think we're supposed to start the foot, and i haven't even turned the heel. oh well. although i brought the socks to rhinebeck with me, i ended up not knitting one stitch on them.
i did start a cowl, then i frogged it, then i started it again.
i'm further along on the cowl.

day 187 -- i'm not done with rhinebeck, just taking a little break. jesus, it's cold in here. and how cool are these birds?
