Whatever I Want Wednesday

it's the end of another year. usually at this time of year i'm thinking about resolutions and doing a mental breakdown (or having one) of my accomplishments.  but not this year.  nope.  mostly because 2008 was a bust.  i don't think i accomplished anything that i had planned to in the past year.  (i'm not going to check either).  i'm fatter than ever.  still in the same job i hate (thanks craptastic economy).  still have no siding on the walls of my house, etc.  and if i think too hard about everything i didn't do, i'll just get maudlin and eat chocolate and get even fatter.  so i'm just not going to do it.  i can only do my best.  and maybe that will be my resolution for 2009 ... try to be the best that i can be.

ha!  that was easy.

and on that note, i present my final FO of the year. a stocking cap for me.   after making this hat for my father-in-law and not wanting to part with it, i decided to make one for me too.

i used 5 different colors of patons classic merino for this one too, but instead of changing colors every 3 rows, i changed them every 15.  the wider stripes are much more slimming i think.  ha!

and at adrian's suggestion, i made three pompoms for the tip instead of just one.  a girl can never have too many pompoms.   as always, any details have been raveled.

Oh Pippa!

wanna guess who i met today? 

only pippa, the cutest puppy ever!  yep, i drove out west to do a little knitting and just to hang out.  i may have also picked up my december hello yarn fiber too.  it's really pretty.

A Break Through

i made it through the day without cold medication.  but i will be taking a shot of nyquil tonight.  tomorrow, i'm leaving the house for the whole day!  i can hardly stand it!

i could whine about how sick i still feel but you really don't want to read about that again.  i swear i'm not normally this big a baby.

Lunch and a Movie

i forced myself to go out today.  sometimes laying around the house just makes me feel sicker than i really am.  so it was good that i got out.  i met a friend whom I hadn't see in months for lunch and then we went to see Will Smith's latest film "Seven Pounds." i hadn't read or heard anything about it so i didn't have any preconceived ideas or impressions.  and i have to say that i really enjoyed it.  it made me think.  it made me work a little.  if you have any interest in seeing this, don't bother reading a review.  part of the appeal for me of this movie was not entirely understanding what this character was doing and why he was doing it.  just an FYI.  this is not a comedy.  just so you know.

A Day of Ick

my original plan for today was to take my 13 year old twin nieces to target so that they could spend the gift cards they received yesterday.  and then we would go to friendly's because that's what they like to do.  but luckily, i didn't promise anything because i woke up this morning feeling worse than ever.  so i did nothing.  and it's beginning to bore me. 

tomorrow i had better feel more like myself.  that's all i'm saying.

day 252 -- i almost quit the daily posting today.  too tired to care.

It's Over ... What a Relief

christmas this year will be remembered as the year i felt like crap.  good times.  but despite the fact that i feel like my head is now in a vice (i've gone through various stages of ick over the course of the past two days, starting with the sore throat, then stuffy nose, then exhaustion with coughing, and now headache) it was a lovely time.  j surprised me with beautiful earrings (diamond studs).  see, we weren't supposed to get each other gifts but  he broke the rules.  (i did too, but a lands end down vest and chocolate isn't nearly as good).  in the yankee swap, i ended up with the gift i brought, which is fine with me since i bought it because i wanted it in the first place.

i'm glad it's over though, because i can't handle the pressure (ha!).  i was finishing up my father-in-law's gift until late last night.

the pompom may be my favorite part.

the pattern is from Holiday Knits, but instead of 15 row stripes in 2 different colors, i knit 3 row stripes in 5 different colors.  i've raveled the details here.

Tomoko Rocks!

this is what was waiting for me in my mailbox last night.  made for me by tomoko of tadworks, this was a most wonderful birthday surprise.  i may have squealed, and i'm not a squealer.

Christmas Vacation

so it's official.  i'm on vacation until the 5th of january.  yay!  today i went into work for a few hours to tie up some loose ends before the holiday, then i did some christmas shopping (i've got one last present to buy) and then met the gang at knit night.  i got home about 30 minutes ago and i can hear j snoring.  good times i'm telling you.

anyway, it's past my bedtime.  gotta go before i turn into a pumpkin.
