A Mountain of Packages

what a mess!  but in a good way (although the clutter is making me twitch just a little).

thanks to everyone who sent in squares for elisa's dad.  i've prepared a handy dandy excel spreadsheet logging in everyone's names, email addresses, etc., and the number of squares (you know, for the contest).

how about some numbers?  i've received a total of 72 squares!  from 30 people!  i've received squares from people as far north as minnesota and as far south as houston texas.  as far west as california and as far east as boston and nyc. 

i've heard from a few of you that "the squares are in the mail" so i anticipate a few more squares.  and also i've heard that some of you sent the squares directly to elisa.  so i think with 75+ squares, elisa's dad will have a massive blanket, which is just awesome. 

i'll have pictures of squares soon.  i don't want to remove them from their packages until i've labeled every square.

i've got a few prizes, yarn mostly, from my stash but also some wonderful donations from square contributors.  i'll be selecting winners in the next week or so.  and then i'll be sending the squares off to elisa.  (who will be doing the sewing.)  the mess is kind of freaking me out so the sooner the better.

 

anyway, i've got to go.  in a hurry.  but i wanted to give you all an update.  it's pretty great.

A Contest for Squares

hey everyone!  the response to my call has been awesome.  i know elisa's been really touched and i'm confident that this blanket will be beautiful.

to thank you all for participating, i'm going to have a little contest.  for every square i receive from you, i'll put your name into a hat (or bowl or bag) and award some prizes.  how's that?  i might have more than one prize even.

so, we need a deadline for the contest...how about thursday, february 14th. yep, that's valentines day.  i bet you didn't know i could be a bit of a sentimental sap.

Just a Yarn Cake Minding His Own Business

this day started like any other day.  a yarn cake just minding his own business, whistling a happy tune even.

and then DANGER struck!!! " NO!!!!!!!  HELP!!!!!!"  he screamed.

but his cries were in vain.

did the beast eat our yarn friend?  did she pull his yarn end and make him dance across the floor before getting tangled within his strands with a satisfied sigh of contentment?  tune in tomorrow (or maybe the next day -- tomorrow being more of a general time in the foreseeable future rather than actually the day after today) to find out.

And the Oscar Goes To ...

no oscar recap today because i didn't watch the awards.  but i do have some winner's to announce...

yes, for today's installment of "Things I Like Monday" i'm going to start with:

1.  Picking Winners.  I picked two winners for the sock rules contest.  One winner was selected using the random number generator.  and that person is vrkdorell.  if this is your entry ... please leave me a comment or email.

the second was hand selected by j.  i asked him to pick the one picture that caused him the most visual discomfort.  i'm surprised (this is not the most heinous combo in my opinion) and yet not, by his selecgtion (when i painted our bathroom a light yellow, he went and got the neighbor across the street to ask her if the color wasn't a bit too bright)   congratulations kat ... he picked you.  email me your address and i'll send you something knitterly ... or not. 

2.   I like finishing projects.  i have a couple to show.  tomorrow when i'm not so pooped.  (it's 10:30 -- way past my bedtime.  yes, i'm pathetic).

3. And I like getting excited about new projects.  I have a couple in mind.  Here's a hint for one of them.

or in my case, more procrastinating, of which i am the queen.

a few announcements.

1.  because of some whining, i've decided to keep the my sock rules contest open until sunday, february 18th, midnight, ET.   with everyone's permission, i've posted pictures of all entries here in this flickr group.  if you entered, and your sock combo is not there, please let me know.

2.  one of my new year's resolutions (the only one i've actually stuck to consistently) was to take a picture a day.  i decided to post all of my pictures in it's own blog called "one thousand words."  links to others participating with me can also be found there in the sidebar.

Happy VD!

a few of you asked how my meeting monday night went.  it went ok.  i was nervous, and when i'm nervous, i get a little shifty eyed.  for some reason, i had hoped to impress this guy, which is dumb since it was just an informational meeting, not an interview or anything.  oh well.

so the information.  i'm a bit disappointed.  for some reason i was under the impression that i could get my teaching license in no time.  but i guess not.  there are a couple of classes to take, some field study sessions that aren't always offered every semester (which kind of makes me want to scream), and tests.  it's possible that i may have to take a couple of biology classes again.  this whole process could take up to two years, which  is very frustrating since once i make a decision, i want to start immediately.  oh well.  if anyone has any advice i'd really appreciate it.

Breaking the Rules -- A Contest

B, a muggle friend of mine, feels pretty strongly about what color socks one should wear.    basically she thinks that socks should match either your shoes or your pants .. preferably your pants.  your socks should definitely not match your shirt only as this screams 1982.

i tend to disagree and i think most of you do too.

so i'm going to have a contest.

post a picture in the  flickr group sock rules or on your blog with a comment to this post, of a shoe -- sock -- pants  or skirt combination that would make B's eyes bleed.  i want a lot of competitors, so i'm going to have this contest go until February 15th -- J's birthday.

i will select at least one combination at random and that person will win a prize.  if i get a lot of people playing, i'll select more for prizes.

so i've been hosting a contest here for the past few days.  and i didn't tell you.  i know i'm very stealthy.

the winner?  of what?  did i pick her name out of hat?  am i just screwing with you and not giving anyone a chance to enter a contest by not announcing it ahead of time?  do i just like her better than the rest of you?  NO NO NO

well you see, the last time i told you all about a contest, i was told that i was a comment whore.
