In Case I Forget ... Or Drink too Much

today's been kind of busy and in a few minutes i'm running out to pick up some prints and my car before meeting the girls for a little knitting.

so this is all i've got.

you are teal
#008080

Your dominant hues are green and blue. You're smart and you know it, and want to use your power to help people and relate to others. Even though you tend to battle with yourself, you solve other people's conflicts well.

Your saturation level is very high - you are all about getting things done. The world may think you work too hard but you have a lot to show for it, and it keeps you going. You shouldn't be afraid to lead people, because if you're doing it, it'll be done right.

Your outlook on life can be bright or dark, depending on the situation. You are flexible and see things objectively.

Pahk the Cah

phew ... well that's a relief.  even though i've lived in boston for 17 years and in the burbs an additional three, i'm proud to announce that according to this quiz that i swiped from elizabeth, i do not have a boston accent.

and that's wicked good news.  no offense to my in laws, my husband, or you other boston area folks, of course.

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent."  You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas.  You have a good voice for TV and radio.

The Inland North

My French Name?

this quiz makes me giggle

Your French Name is:
Anastasie Barbier

as if my real name weren't frenchie enough

sheesh...

*************************************************************************************

grumperina wants to know who knows about my knitting and my knitting blog (well not MY knitting etc. specifically, but you know what i mean) and what are my reasons for revealing or not.  the first part of her question i've already answered here. basically, no one from my real non-blog world knows about the blog other than j and my coworker, e -- who has a knit blog herself.  and j certainly doesn't read it (e does i think, she comments occasionally).   my reasons for keeping it secret are many but still it's because it's my little private piece of my life.  when you get married for the first time at the ripe old age of 40 there are many boundaries that get crossed that you aren't used to having crossed.  so this blogging thing is maybe an expression of the old pre-married me.  eh.. who knows.  as for the knitting.  everybody knows about the knitting.  i knit in public often.  on the commuter train certainly.  i take knitting to my inlaws for family events -- it keeps me from picking at the massive amounts of snacks that are always available within reach.  coworkers know i knit and crochet.  and my family knows i knit.  well my mom and dad know.  so there you go.  blog -- big secret.  knitting -- not so much.

i've been tagged by Lori ... which is cool because until she tagged me i didn't "know" her.  nice to meet you!

Here are the "rules":
1. Go into your archive.
2. Find your 23rd post (or closest to).
3. Find the fifth sentence (or closest to).
4. Post the text of the sentence in your blog along with these instructions.
5. Tag five people to do the same.

in my 23rd post i blogged about meeting Rachel and her sister when they visited boston.

"Rachel and Beth were in town just for fun for a day, staying with Amber (a Bostonian), and i was lucky enough to get to meet all three and hang out. "

I am Obsolete.

Quiz comes via Rabbitch ....

France Modern (trois fleurs-de-lis)
You are 'French'. In the nineteenth century, it
was the international language of diplomacy.
It is a 'beautiful' language, meaning that it
is really just a low-fidelity copy of Latin. You know the importance of communicating
'diplomatically', which for you means both
being polite and friendly when necessary and
using sophisticated, vicious sarcasm when
appropriate. Your life is guided by either
existentialism or nihilism, depending on the
weather. You have a certain appreciation for
the finer things in life, which is a diplomatic
way of saying that you are a disgusting
hedonist. Your problem is that French has been
obsolete for a long time.

What obsolete skill are you?

While I Sort Through My Bermuda Photos ...

my vacation was awesome.  and of course too short.  i even had a good time with the inlaws.  most of them anyway.  like in any group, there's always one (or two) who have to behave like a putz.   and whiny children ... i'm not a big fan.  which kind of makes me think of myself as being some cold bitch.  and maybe i am.  whatever.

anyway -- i'll post more about bermuda once i sort through the 266 pictures i took.

in the meantime ... i leave you with a couple of quizzes.

it appears that i'm a bit of a drama queen perhaps.

i haven't posted one of these quizzes in a long time.  this one i got from michelle.

i'm a little peeved that my logical intelligence is not genius.  i thought i was always so logical.  (ha!)

The Rogers Indicator of Multiple Intelligences
created with QuizFarm.com

i am not at all surprised by the outcome.  i'm very visual (if i see something written down i'll remember it, if i just hear it -- like a phone number, or a person's name -- poof it's gone) and i became the family car trip navigator at the age of 9 when my father figured out that i could in fact read a map and my mother could not.  (i did not get to sit in the front seat however.)

by the way, lint queen is a fellow knitter who drives a mini.  she and i are both members of the new ring called "mini knits" (check out the link under "clutter") created by purlingswine  for people who drive minis and knit, hopefully not at the same time, although i have knitted while driving but in my defense i was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the mass pike.  i was not actually moving.

hmmm other news.  i joined netflix.  i told j he could order some dvds upon occasion.  maybe 1 for every one of my 3.  i started off with season 1 of the gilmore girls.  someone had suggested that i might like it.  and they were correct.  very cute.  thank you whoever you are.

finally, although it's almost 50 degrees today and the birds are chirping and it actually feels like spring could be coming, it's supposed to fucking snow tomorrow.  i'm ok with snow in january...but in february ... and then MARCH (because it will snow in march) i'm not quite so excited.  when i lived in the city, i did not hate snow.  i swear it.

Good Housekeeping Seal

in the second half of the 90's WAY before it was cool, before dave foley was trying to salvage his career by hosting Celebrity Poker Showdown (which i love by the way -- everything including the Loser's Lounge) i was a member of a women's poker group. we met once a month, in someone's home, the host providing nibbles, the rest of us bringing the liquor. sometimes we had a serving wench in the form of a husband or boyfriend, but they weren't allowed to play. NO BOYS ALLOWED.

the group consisted of some very talented women -- all writers -- poets, novelists, playwrights, short story writers (one is the founder of grub street) and well me. many had local successes and i was always very happy to support them by going to their readings and plays. i was like a proud parent, really.

so the proud parent in me was bursting out of control last thursday when i went to see one of my former poker buddies read from her newly published collection of short stories entitled Calamity and Other Short Stories.

I MEAN HER BOOK IS SOLD ON AMAZON!!!! AND SHE SIGNED IT FOR ME!!! when i think about what this means, i do become a little verklempt (proof that although i did not care for Titanic, that i am not in fact, dead inside).

RUN DON'T WALK and buy her book!!! really truly!!!

by the way, one of the stories in the book was published in January's Good Housekeeping Magazine, the one with julia roberts on the cover, so you know that the stories are wholesome and family friendly too.

i don't know if i'm happy or disappointed.  isn't that odd?  when i was in highschool in the late 70's - early 80's, i was definitely "nerdy."  you didn't have to obsessed with star trek, be a computer geek (the only computer we had access to in school was this big mainframe that had it's own room with two terminals attached to it, one of which was a dot matrix printer) or even play dungeons and dragons.  i was "nerdy" because i was good in science and math.  that was it.... oh and i was one of 5 people in my highschool who could solve a rubik's cube in less than a minute and a half.

Oh I Don't Have Time To Knit...

You Are a Snarky Blogger!

You've got a razor sharp wit that bloggers are secretly scared of. And that's why they read your posts as often as they can!

i meant to post the results of this quiz on friday, but then the day got away from me, and then the weekend came.

friday night i did nothing. i just sit on my ass and knit.

saturday, i cruised around town and in my cruising, ended up in the shop of a local craft celebrity, Kathy McMannis, author of Rag Wool Appliqué: •Easy to Sew •Use Any Sewing Machine •Quilts, Home Decor & Clothing . she was very friendly and we chatted about how she started out and what it was like owning her own shop (she's had it for 3 months and has been keeping busy with custom embroidery orders for the local highschool and businesses). anyway, it was kind of cool. maybe i'll buy her book and have her sign it for me... right next door to her place, is my town's only yarn shop. i really really really want to love this little shop, have my picture up on the wall, have the owners wave to me when i drive by, come by for a sit with my Big One from dunkin donuts .... sigh... but it's not going to happen as long as OVER HALF OF THEIR INVENTORY IS THAT HEINOUS FUN FUR NOVELTY CRAP!!!! they also had a bunch of baby yarn. my guess is the bulk of their clientele answer to the name of granny or nana. i did buy 2 skeins of very pretty dark pink cascade, since i felt kind of guilty just coming in, making retching noises at the wall of fuzz yarn, and then walking out.

saturday night, j and i went across the street to the neighbors' annual holiday open house.  this is the third year for me.  the first year, we had just gotten engaged that day so i spent the evening showing off the crazy ass 6 carat cubic zirconium that j had just given me (to be traded in later -- he had wanted to surprise me, but he had also wanted me to pick out my own ring, so he decided to get me something fabulously fake).  last year i got drunk, spilled red wine on the carpet, and ended up with a mother of a hangover.  this year, i behaved myself, but came close to going postal on the nicolette sheriden of the neighborhood when she asked me to make her a fuzzy assed novelty yarn shawl like the one she was wearing.  i told her that i'd be happy to teach her how to knit one herself, to which she replied, "oh i know how to knit, i just don't have time."

i've heard other bloggers talk about this...i didn't realize how infuriating it would be to be on the receiving end of such a comment.  'yeah lady, i have so much free time myself that i'd be more than happy to knit you some fuck ugly shawl out of yarn that i can't stand on needles the size of tree trunks that hurt my hands while you prance around showing off your navel ring to my poor husband who is nice enough to help you around the house (because your ex-husband is a loser) but who is afraid to go over to your house alone because you make him "uncomfortable." '

no i did not tell her that.  i think i did say though, "if you have time to sit on your ass, you have time to knit."  was that rude?

Singing Fat Ladies

boston has redsox fever these days ... after coming unbearably close to elimination, thanks to david ortiz they're back in the bronx to try and reverse the curse of the bambino. (the curse of the bambino by the way is in my opinion just an excuse for screwing up over and over again. a friend of mine says i'm tough on the redsox but honestly, if i failed over and over again at just the time that i was supposed to be at my best, i'd be fired. so there.) when they lost their 3rd game in a row in the ALCS, i was so disappointed that it occurred to me that since the end of the regular season, i had been using the redsox success as a harbinger of the upcoming presidential election with bush representing the yankees (that is if the yankees really DID suck as a baseball team) and kerry representing the redsox.

i am now cautiously more optimistic.

You are through those knitting growing pains and
feeling more adventurous. You can follow a
standard pattern if it's not too complicated
and know where to go to get help. Maybe you've
started to experiment with different fibers and
you might be eyeing a book with a cool
technique you've never tried. Perhaps you
prefer to stick to other people's patterns but
you are trying to challenge yourself more.
Regardless of your preference, you are

well you should since your non-knitting friends

Mee-Ah

i was a little kid during the vietnam war. i don't really remember anything about the vietnam war...except for one instance when i was in the 4th grade.

instead of "show and tell" we had "current events" which was when we were asked to bring in a newspaper article that we had to present to the class. when it was my turn, i talked about the POWs and the MIAs. but instead of calling them P.O.W.s i called them pows ... and mias (mee-ahs). no, i had no idea what i was talking about. and the teacher never corrected me. i guess it was enough that i was trying to read such a thing -- comprehension wasn't a priority.

i'm not going to apologize for being mee-ah though. that would put me in a certain category of blogger that i'm not sure i want to be in.

Open House

view

so the meeting with the realtor went well. first of all, i loved her and want to be her friend. considering that one of my closest friends now is the real estate agent who sold me my apartment 6 years ago, i'm thinking that maybe i just seem to connect with real estate agents and maybe i need to consider a career change. hmmmm.

anyway -- i have 2 weeks to get the place ready to be sold. and the only thing i really need to do is clear out the clutter (which i've already started doing) and have it majorly cleaned. i was worried that she'd suggest i have the floors redone and have it painted but she said no. my condo has lots of space for a boston condo, a great view, and a convenient location. so we're good to go.

it's funny though, as i signed the contract and all, i got a little emotional. not only am i selling my home, i'm also giving up a lifestyle that i really like. i love living in the city. i've never been a big fan of the suburbs. a girlfriend of mine describes me as someone who doesn't believe in grass. also i've lived by myself for over 13 years. and i really like living alone. i never considered moving in with my husband before we were married because i didn't see the point, since i could afford to live alone. i'm only agreeing to living with him now because that's what married people do. if the house next to his ever goes on the market, i may consider buying it. ahh the things one does for love.

time for a quiz that i got from erica ... get a load of the koigu she just acquired.

"Each New Thought Propels"

thursday afternoons at work are kind of a waste. every thursday afternoon i have a meeting at harvard medical school (i just threw that in to impress ya) with my bosses and assorted other important people types (i'm not included in the important people types by the way) which is across town from my office. and since in boston, you really "can't get there from here" i end up walking. so after walking, meeting, and walking back, my afternoon is pretty well shot and i tend to do busy work or ... yes.... read blogs. HEY AT LEAST I'M NOT DOWNLOADING PORN!

anyway, one thing i've noticed in blogdom, among those that have taken the bloginality test, is that the majority of bloggers that i read are introverts. which i think is kind of interesting. discuss among yourselves....

i on the other hand am an extrovert, and more specifically an ENTP. what is a little creepy is that it doesn't matter which test i take, the results are the same.

__________________________________________________
ENTP
Ok. Ready? You like to chase the novel and complex. You have faith in your ability to overcome any challenges you face...highly independent...value adaptability and innovation...you encourage and value change...

You need freedom for action...you resist hierarchy and structure...you push against all odds to further your projects with your entrepreneurial tendencies...you can argue and find the flaws in any position...

How'm I doing so far? You rarely accept things just as they are...you like to test new meanings and relationships..when you don't get what you want, you use your cleverness and ingenuity to bring people around to your point of view...when you choose a career, you tend to set flexible goals that allow you to incorporate new information and accommodate to new circumstances...

"Keep your options open" is your middle name... you like to explore the "road not taken." Your flexibility can look like indecision to others who don't have a clue about you..you take advantage of opportunities...you realize potential of many things because of your ability to see connections and relationships between SEEMINGLY unrelated things...you cannot be ordered around, but rather handle things best when they are *suggestions*....like posting more on the Storm Palace BBS you love excitement...

Competence is key to you.. you don't take advice or respect someone you don't see as competent...you want work to be enjoyable..you're a relentless learner. Knowledge is important to you...you use your enthusiasm to get others involved in your learning...you learn through give-and-take discussions and by questioning and challenging others....you like challenging your teachers and colleagues...limitations are mere challenges to you...you take initiative, and once the ball is rolling, you like to turn it over to someone else...

You like to organize logically and strategically....your work space might not LOOK organized, but underneath it all is a system that works for you. You like to have an impact...you need a job that allows you to be innovative. you like to take risks and explore...an open calendar for the weekend is really appealing...you're often "in on the latest things..."...you like travel, 'cause it allows you to open up new vistas and horizons (corny, huh?).

Falling in love happens when there's a good "fit" with another person...you often know after the first meeting whether there's any "real potential"... you may not like to commit until that right person comes along...therefore you probably won't settle down early...you don't like to lose at ANYthing you undertake...you're a born enterpriser...

Things to be on guard for: you have a great fear of looking dumb or incomp- etent..you may tend to think you have the perfect solutions for problems, and may become competitive when others challenge you... you might start to think that you're the only one who's in on the truth of things, so you might not like to listen to the input of others...you may have the tendency to overextend yourself as you jump in on lots of ideas without considering how long it takes to work 'em through... commit to too many projects? ...you are a rebel.. you find it difficult to accept standard operating procedures.. and hate HAVING to follow exact rules or policies...learn to work within the system.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i think this description is pretty dead on. i think... oh who knows....

thanks to allison for the test link.
