Shop Update

cards

cards

i'm sure you've all been waiting with anticipation.  but your wait is no longer.  i've updated the shop.  heh.

if you recall, i donated a set of 10 cards as a ravelraiser prize.  not everyone can win though, so i've put some of these cards up for sale.  i'll put more up tomorrow.  AND IF PEOPLE WOULD BUY SOME I MIGHT EVEN MAKE MORE!!  not that i'm begging or anything.

Open for Business

so remember about 6 weeks ago when i told you all that i was working on a crafty project and that you'd find out about it soon enough when i was ready to announce it?

well i'm ready.  and i'm open for business.  or rather will be at Rhinebeck.

thanks to the encouragement and connections of one ms.  mcyarnpants, i've been given the opportunity peddle my  wares at Blogger Bingo Headquarters, aka a Craftman's Touch  and Red Maple Sportswear Co.  David and Mel at Craftman's Touch/RedMaple Sportswear will be set up in Barn 39, Booth D, and they've generously agreed to carry my very first line of photo cards.  you won't find fiber dyed by me, or crocheted toilet paper cozies (although i bet you wish you were).  nope, i'm in the card making business kids.

and if you don't buy them all, i'll be out of the card making business.

seriously though, i've worked really hard on creating something that i hope you all will like.  each card measures 5x7 inches, is blank inside and is made from quality natural colored cardstock and an individually printed glossy photograph, shot by me.  i've enclosed each card (and envelope) in a protective cellophane sleeve.  and on the back of each card you will find my little monster-yarn-face logo.

so as soon as you get to Rhinebeck, go as fast as you can to Barn 39, Booth D, and check them out.  and check out David and Mel's stuff too, oh and stitchy's. you know, because i owe them.

if you aren't going to Rhinebeck and are still interested in my cards, you can always email me at bnt_images@yahoo.com.

Brown Eggs Are Local Eggs

today i'm home.  i got up bright and early to dye eggs.  yep.  no sleeping in for me, even when i can.

when i was a kid, my mom and i would dye eggs every easter.  but she would buy the pure white variety.

but since the majority of the eggs sold in my neck of the woods are of the brown kind, i thought it might be interesting to experiment.

while hardboiling a dozen eggs,  i prepared several bowls of intense color.  no pastels for me.  and since i was starting out with a variations of brown as a background, i figured the deeper, the better.

dyeing

using martha's directions as a guide, i also experimented with a little marbelizing.

Flat Marble Thingy Tutorial

since showing you all my meathead, i've gotten a couple of requests on how i made my little pins.  i wish i could say that i was brilliant enough to have come up with this all by myself, but that would be a lie.  and lying is wrong.  i think there's a commandment that says so.

go to not martha's   for a brilliant list of how-tos (i didn't use these instructions, but i could have).  although the instructions are for magnets, the premise is the same.  i used a special acid-free glue that's used for bookbinding that dries clear.  it's strong enough for sticking the image to the pebble.   i bought the glue and the pebbles at the paper source, a store that i love.

where i changed things is that instead of attaching a magnet to the pebbles, i attached a brooch backing.  i think i bought these pins at joanns, they're easy enough to find at any craft store that sells jewelery making supplies.  i sewed each pin to a piece of felt cut to fit then with my trusty glue gun (i love my glue gun) i attached the piece of felt to the back of the pebble.

easy as pie.  the hardest part of this whole project was getting the lid off of the glue jar -- it stuck -- and cutting the felt, because i don't have a decent pair of scissors for cutting fabric.
